Heat

Saturday, the band had their 2nd marching contest. This is one we had to schedule at the last minute because the one we originally had scheduled was cancelled.

Of course, the temperature dropped and just threw everything out of whack. Kids didn't do as well as they could have, but still managed to place, which was good. One more to go, and its back up at my college!

For those of you that don't live in the south and/or warmer temperatures, the fact that in the stands everyone was bundled up like a blizzard was coming through is sure to seem comical to you. I wish I had thought to take a picture and show you. Thinking about it now, it is kinda funny.

I was thinking about this the other day. Contests up north tend to have to deal with this temps (I believe it got down to the mid to low 40s) or lower, but for us not so much.

A few of our more, shall we say rustic? parents brought an ingenious device to keep them warm, besides an entire collection of blankets, they had propane heaters under their legs.

I've never seen these things, but if I ever move to someplace like say, Colorado, I'll be sure to invest in one. While the rest of us looked like cartoon characters that had been placed in the freezer, those parents were all nice and toasty.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

We all complained about lunches in school

I remember back when I was in school how I either took my lunch or just hit up the concession stands (mainly because of the cute cheerleader or ROTC chick I was crushing on at the time) so that I wouldn't have to eat that slop they served in the cafeteria.

My guess is that many of you had a similar opinion of your cafeteria's food in school. Well, it was brought to my attention yesterday that the cafeteria food up at the high school served maggots in their food this week.

I first thought this was just some kid attempting to play a Halloween prank on me, until one of the teachers up there told me that it was true. Not only was it true, but it was done on consecutive days!

Here's the thing...coaches run this school district...literally, almost every teacher, administrator, and school board member is a coach of some sort. I can imagine if one of their players got sick the uproar it would case, especially if was the football players.

We all know that football players are any school's pride and joy, especially during football season (at least when they're winning). Why is it when the other student's are nearly poisoned, nothing is done, even though parents and teachers complain?

I didn't even bother going to the school board. I used connection. hehehe It helps to have gone to high school with the health inspector. Needless to say, there will be an investigation.

I'm curious to know what you all think of this? Have you ever been anywhere where the school has served maggots? Isn't that like, totally gross, man?

Thanks for reading!

With all the negativity in the world...

Stories like this should really get more hype. Even someone as devoid of emotions as I have been rumored to be had to take a moment after reading

While the LSU football team and Tiger fans have been gearing up for this game all week, one little boy from Baton Rouge has been holding out all summer. Saturday, the Golden Band from Tigerland made one this kid's lifelong dream come true.

For most of his life, five year old Oliver Prats was a LSU band spectator.

"Oliver was born with Spina Bifida which causes paralysis below the waist," said Lacy Prats, Oliver's mother. "He uses a wheel chair to ambulate. So in therapy he can walk with braces and walker. So we always tell him to pretend that he's marching with LSU marching band."

But Saturday he did not have to pretend. After band director Roy King saw a picture of little Oliver in a miniature band uniform on Facebook this summer, he and his staff decided to bring Oliver in on the action.

"We're going to start off where the band steps off at the Greek Amphitheater. And Oliver's going to lead the band, literally, through the streets down the hill and into the P-MAC," said Trey Prats, Oliver's Dad.

Oliver, who was a little shy at first, absolutely transformed as he lead his heroes through a sea of purple and gold. After a long summer of waiting for this special day, that Oliver and his parents never dreamed of, this little boy's lifelong dream has come true

"These kids go through so much. All day yesterday, in fact, we were in New Orleans at doctor's appointments all day. He's got a tough life. He really does. And you know days like this just makes it all worth it, and it just brings a smile on his face," said Lacy Prats.

After all of the pre-game band fun, Oliver and his parents also got to spend the entire football game sitting in the stands with the band.
