Eye Candy 2/27

Female Hottie: Ashley Judd

This week's first hottie was born into a celebrity family. Mother Naomi and sister Wynona were the longtime country music duo the Judds. Ashely, however, went a different direction with her career and became a successful actress, appearing in films such as De-Lovely, Kiss the Girls, Norma Jean & Marilyn, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Tooth Fairy, and the fortchoming Dolphin Tale. As you can tell by this picture, she is also an avid sports fan, particular of Kentucky basketball and auto racing (both NASCAR and Indy). Currently, she is in talks to star in an action series on ABC. Hopefully she gets it. Who wouldn't want to see this every week?

Male Hottie: Denzel Washington

Denzel is an Oscar winning actor and has been one of the top leading men in Hollywood for as long as I can remember. He's also a devout family man. His resume includes films such as Malcolm X, Mo' Better Blues, Training Day, Remember the Titans, Mississippi Masala, He Got Game, The Book of Eli,Philadelphia, Glory, and that's just the top of the iceberg. Interstingly enough, almost everything he's in he gets nominated for some kind of award, often winning. I don't really see what ladies see in him, but he's apparently well-loved. Not bad for someone who got their start os a little show called St. Elsewhere, huh?

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Gemma Arterton

British actress Gemma Arterton is this week's random hottie. She is best known to American audiences for her roles in Clash of the Titans (the remake) and last summer's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It looks as if her career on this side of the pond is set to take off, as she will next be seen over here in Men in Black III. Let's hope we get to see more of this fair skinned hottie!

MILF: Toni Braxton

Our MILF for this week comes to us from the music world. Toni Braxton was a multi-time Grammy Award winning singer with hits like "Another Sad Love Song", "Un-Break My Heart", and "He Wasn't Man Enough". These days, though she is still actively recording and performing, many may know her better for her time on Dancing With the Stars. Can you believe with a body like that, she has 2 kids?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Mitzi Gaynor

Our classic hottie for this week is best know to audiences for her roles in musicals such as There's No Business Like Show Business and Anything Goes. Her career was mainly limited to musicals, but in said musicals, she flourished. Today, she is touring with her one-woman show Razzle Dazzle: My Life Behind the Sequins. At 79 years old, she can still get up there and sing and dance with these young wipper snappers.

Seriously?!?

I meant to mention this last week, but never got around to it. Even though this story has come and gone, I've been stewing about it ever since.

A little background, for those of you that don't know. Last weekend, the Grammy's were held. Everyone had jumped to the assumption that Justin Bieber would win the award for Best New Artist, especially his legions of fanatic tween girl fans.

So, when the announcement was made that Esperanza Spalding, a new jazz artist, was the winner, you could hear two different reactions.

On one hand, there was the anger and outrage from Bieber's fan base. On the other side, there were cheers from those of us that are more knowledgeable of who is the better artist.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to deny that the boy has talent, just not as much as everyone seems to think. He was worthy of the nomination, just not the win.

Anyway, after the win, apparently, some of his obsessive fans...well...just read this...

Fans who have "Bieber Fever" may be downright sick.

After the 16-year-old singer lost the Best New Artist category to the little-known Esperanza Spalding at the Grammys on Sunday night, Justin Bieber fans mounted an overnight Internet assault on the jazz artist.

Spalding's Wikipedia page was vandalized within hours of his loss, as Bieber fans-turned-hackers posted a series of misstatements, insults and death threats on her page.

After a sentence noted her Grammy victory, a user wrote, "Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?"

Also on the site, the singer's middle name was changed to both "Justin" and later "Quesadilla."

In yet another place where her win was mentioned, a Bieber fan wrote, "Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!"

Indeed, Spalding pulled off the biggest upset of the evening, where the bassist also beat out Florence & the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Drake in the newcomer category.

Spalding released her third album, "Chamber Music Society," last summer and has enjoyed modest success since then. She released her first CD in 2006.

"I was one of those [surprised] people," the 26-year-old Spalding told MTV.com after her victory. "It was so unexpected, that's the truth. I'm grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years. I don't really think this is for me; it's for all of us."

Isn't that just sickening, sad, and insane? The fact that this was able to have been done was bad enough, but let's take a minute and think about the kind of people that would go to such measures.

I know there are plenty of times I've been disappointed with someone wining who wasn't who I was expecting, but never in a million years have I thought of doing anything to deface them.

What makes matters worse is that after this was done, he didn't step up and say anything. Not like that would have done anything, but we all know that had this been someone like, say, Beyonce, everyone would be expecting her to come out and say something distancing herself from these deplorable acts.

Guess we better watch out come Sunday if there is an upset in the Oscars. Someone may attack their wikipedia pages.

This is just...I don't really know what to say about it. Here's something else, though, the day after the Grammy's and Bieber's upset it was announced that they would be bringing the Billboard Music Awards back to TV.

Is it just me, or does the timing of that seem to be jut to find a way to get Bieber some awards (as if he won't get enough at the MTV, Kid's Choice, Teen Choice, etc....the ones that are voted on by popularity and not talent)?

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding her win, this girl is talented. It's great to see a real musician win a music award and not some manufactured, over hyped boil on the butt of society.

In conclusion, let me leave you with a bit of Esperanza's music. Like most of the world, I hadn't heard of her until she won....and I'm a jazz fan!

Trend?

I've noticed something...a trend, if you will...happening on facebook. It seems as if many of my friends that are married have taken to merging their accounts.

Now, I don't want to come off as sounding like I have a problem with this, because I don't.

Having said that, I would never merge my acct with the little woman's.

Why, you may ask? Well, it is more of a question of individuality. I hesitate commenting or e-mailing people with these merged accounts because you never know who'll read it first.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Musical Monday

Happy Musical Monday (and Valentine's Day) everyone! What better way to celebrate this day for lover's than with a song that has the word valentine in the title. Please enjoy Chris Botti (with Sting) performing "My Funny Valentine"

...it was just brought to my attention that the lady they are playing/singing to is Sting's wife (for those that are curious about useless trivia like that..lol)

Eye Candy 2/13

Female Hottie: Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is this week's female hottie. This Latina uber-hottie has appeared in numerous movies, including both Fantastic Four movies, Sin City, Good Luck Chuck, Valentine's Day, Honey, etc., but I fondly remember the beginning of her career in the TV series Dark Angel. I'm not exactly a fan of Jessica's apparent loss of her curvy figure, but she is still a genuine hottie!

Male Hottie: Antonio Banderas

Many have called him the "Latin ass from Heaven". Well, at least my ex-fiancee did. Antonio has been steaming up US screens since he American debut in 1994's The Mambo Kings and lately can be heard as the voice of Puss in Boots in the Shrek franchise. Women everywhere have been grateful to Spain ever since they gave him to us.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Teresa Palmer

Our random hottie comes to us because of her recent appearance in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. This Australian beauty has also appeared in movies such as Bedtime Stories, December Boys, The Grudge 2 and will be appearing in the upcoming movies Take Me Home Tonight and I Am Number Four. It looks as if her career is on a serious upswing and we'll be seeing plenty more of her

MILF: Monica Bellucci

One of the best things to come out of Italy since lasagna makes is Monica Bellucci. I like to refer to her as one of the world's most perfect women, because, quite frankly, she is. As if she weren't already a MILF, but she gave birth to her second child this past spring. Most recently she appeared in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, but you can also see her in movies like Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Passion of the Christ, The Matrix: Revolutions, The Matrix: Reloaded, Shoot 'Em Up, and a slew of foreign films. Personally, I think we could use more of her in the states, but beggars can't be choosy, right?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Lynda Carter

In case you don't know Lynda Carter, her big claim to fame is that she played Wonder Woman in the 70s TV series.Aside from being Wonder Woman, she has appeared in film and TV shows such as Sky High, The Dukes of Hazzard (movie), Hope & Faith, Smallville, Law & Order: SVU, etc. Also, I believe she was a spokeswoman for contacts in the late 80s. Would you trust those baby blues to just anyone? She is definitely a classic beauty!

Super Bowl musings

So, Sunday was the Super Bowl, in case you missed it. Congrats to the Green Bay Packers for the win and to the Pittsburgh Steelers for putting up a helluva fight down to the last minute (and getting screwed on that last cal...but I won't go there).

This is definitely one of the more entertaining Super bowl's I've seen. Of course, the fact that it was closely contested may have had something to do with that.

Enough about the game, though. Let's talk about the "entertainment". For some reason, the blogosphere has been blowing up on this topic all week.

First off, let's get the halftime performers (and I use that term loosely) our of the way. The Black Eyed Peas did an ok job. I mean, I commend the NFL for not going to the musicians retirement home this year, but rather getting a current artist. I still say they need to stop being so paranoid. That Janet Jackson fiasco was a one time fluke, but whatever.

So, the Peas have been getting criticized for doing the "worst halftime show" ever. Someone even went so far a to say it would have been better to trot out a marching band instead. I take offense to that remark, but that's not the point I'm trying to make here.

I watched the halftime. While I'm not a big fan of the Peas, I do enjoy some of their music. All through the game, though, the announcers were saying how impressive the halftime would be and that we would be blown away.

I think this is what led to some disappointment. It was overhyped! On top of that, the guest stars overshadowed the headliners. Slash rocked "Sweet Child o'Mine", in spite of Fergie butchering the actual song. Usher took the show to the next level and some are saying he should have been the halftime performer in the first place. I have to agree with them.

On top of all this, FOX seemed to be having some kind of audio/technical difficulties throughout the performance, which didn't help matters. So, while everyone else in the blogshphere is ripping them a new one, I say it was a subpar effort. Sure, I expected more, but it wasn't all their fault. Now, if the next time I have the opportunity to see them perform and it isn't any better, I'm jumping on the bandwagon and ripping them a new one, but for now I'm going to say they were just average. This is the Black Eyed Peas, for goodness sakes, not Michael Jackson! What did you really expect?!?

The other thing that has people up in arms in Christina Aguilera flubbing the words to the "Star Spangled Banner". Some are even offended by it, but not me.

Sure, I'm a huge Christina fan, but that's not the reason I'm coming to her defense. All these people complaining about her forgetting the words probably don't know the words themselves.

Admittedly, if you were to ask me to sing it, I'd probably flub them myself, but I'm a musician. All I have to do is play the music, not sing the words!

Seriously, though, forgetting the words isn't such a big deal. It was just amplified because it was on arguably the biggest stage. She has performed this exact same song before and done it flawlessly. So, this was nothing but a fluke. There is no need to be so sensitive.

I read one blog calling for her to be exiled! WTF?!?

Finally, the commercials. Similar to the halftime, I think these are just overhyped (and overpriced). Here it is 6 days later and I can't really remember any of them, save for the ones that are still getting airplay. The one that I can remember was this Kim Kardashian commercial.

Honestly, it isn't that memorable of a commercial, but the sexiness of it makes it memorable.

So, in conclusion the word for this year's Super Bowl activities has to be overhyped. How often can we say that the game was the best part?

I guess that was a good thing...right?

Twitter?

*SIGH* Yes, I am thinking of actually joining twitter, but not sure yet. If I do, I'll make my name available for all of you to follow.

I'm also thinking of making a facebook acct for blogging purposes, especially since most of my readers are people not in my everyday life.

Stay tuned for further information on both these possible forthcoming accounts.

Eye Candy 2/6

Female Hottie: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders

It's Super Bowl Sunday. The game is in Dallas (even if the Cowboys aren't playing), and these girls are arguably the most popular cheerleading squad in the world. Not to mention they have brains to go with those looks...some of them, anyway. No fancy description, here. Just enjoy!

Male Hottie: David Beckam

The male hottie for this week comes to us from across the pond. David Beckham is a English soccer player who rose to fame with his marriage to Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, and his talent on the field, not to mention the way women drool over his 6-pack abs.

Random hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Melissa Rauch

Our random hottie for this week comes to us from The Big Bang Theory. (You may not recognize her without the glasses). In addition to her role on there and being a total hottie, Melissa Rauch is also a stand-up comic and has written for sitcoms, as well as making appearances on shows such as True Blood, Kath & Kim, The Office, and on the big screen in I Love You, Man. The more we see of her, the happier I'll be.

MILF: Halle Berry

One of the most beautiful women on the planet, Halle Berry, is this week's MILF. Halle's fame really took off with her appearance as Storm in the X-Men movie franchise and her Oscar win for Monster's Ball. As good as those were, I'm sure we wish we could all forget Catwoman. She has taken some time off to have a kid, but will be returning to the big screen with Frankie and Alice and Dark Tide. Sadly, she won't be appearing in New Year's Eve because of a custody battle that has turned ugly, which is about the only time the word ugly can come anywhere near this goddess!

Classic/Retro Hottie: Jane Russell

I've heard Jane referred to as the brunette Marilyn. Of course, that may have something to do with her co-starring with her in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, though. Either way you look at it, you can't deny this woman's beauty. They don't make 'em like this anymore *SIGH* Such a shame. As far as I know she's still alive, but retired from acting. I wonder how well she's aged.

A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anticlimax. For this reason, it is extremely popular among comedians and satirists.

Time flies

Wow! It's February already! Hard to believe. Before we all know, it, 2011 will be in the books just as fast as 2010 was...lol

So, I just wanted to let you all know that I may not be posting anything else for a couple days. A bit on the sick side and need to get plenty of rest, so I'm going to do a bit of a disconnect. Should be back by the weekend, though.

Until then, thanks to all my readers who come by faithfully and especially those that comment!
