Attack of the menu

Can you believe I'm still feeling the effects of Hurricane Gustav?

For those that don't know or can't remember, a couple years ago that hurricane came through here and knocked the power out for a week. During that time, somehow my desktop was fried (thank goodness for the laptop that kept me sane until we could afford a new desktop come Xmas), all the food in the fridge and freeze was either spoiled or ruined in some way, and when the power returned, my television had some strange menu issues.

Those menu issues went away, then came back, then went away, and now they're back. The initial menu issues also came with the volume going down by itself. It also has been a bit of an issue with trying to turn the set on when these menu issue come about. For some reason, it makes the infrared thingy null and void.

Now, I've been wondering if its time to break down and get a new set, but fact of the matter is, there is nothing really wrong with this one, except this funky menu thing that is annoying the heck out of me, especially since along with making the remote a paperweight, the controls on the set itself don't work, unless a random sequence of them are pressed,m such as volume down and channel up (somehow that turns it on --scratches head--)

Ugh! I don't need to tell you how frustrating this has been, but I suppose it could be worse. Hopefully, this won't last long. It didn't last time, but I do think I will start putting a little bit away for a new one. This one's days seem to be numbered.

Eye Candy 4/25

Female Hottie: Jennifer Love-Hewitt

This week's female hottie has been described as having a "totally orgasmic rack". I don't know about all that, but it is nice. Currently, Jennifer stars on The Ghost Whisperer. She also has appeared in Garfield, Tropic Thunder, Can't Hardly Wait, I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, as well as some TV appearances on Boy Meets World, Family Guy,Kids Incorporated, Party of Five, and American Dreams...just to name a few. Yeah, I think its safe to say we'll be seeing her for quite some time.

Male Hottie: David Beckham

The male hottie for this week comes to us from across the pond. David Beckham is a English soccer player who rose to fame with his marriage to Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, and his talent on the field, not to mention the way women drool over his 6-pack abs.

Random hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week:Keegan Connor Tracy

Our random hottie for this week comes to us from the movie 40 Days and 40 Nights. Keegan Connor Tracy can also be seen in Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins Ball, Chaos, The 4400, Jake 2.0, Final Destination 2, Blackwoods, and a few other small roles, but her claim to fame is her time on Battlestar Galactica. Time will tell whether her career goes up or down, but in the meantime, she is some nice eye candy.

MILF: Maria Bello

This week's MILF is Maria Bello. She may not be a household name, but chances are if you've seen Thank You for Smoking, Coyote Ugly,Thank You for Smoking, A History of Violence, The Mummy III: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, or ER (she had a long stint on there), you've seen her. Look for her in the upcoming movie Grown-Ups. She is the mother of one son.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Lauren Bacall

Our classic hottie is Lauren Bacall. Best know for her romance with Humphrey Bogart, she is also one of the AFI's top 25 actresses of all time. Her resume includes roles in Dark Passage, Misery,How to Marry a Millionaire, The Mirror Has Two Faces, The Big Sleep , just to name a few. At 85 years young, Lauren is still going strong. She lends her smoky voice to animated films such as Scooby Doo and the Goblin King and will have a part in the forthcoming Carmel.

Where's the beef?

Pointless Study

I was reading on-line somewhere that they did this study on texting. Personally, I despise anything having to do with texting. As a matter of fact, that goes for using a cell phone for anything other than talking. Call me old fashioned, but a phone should be used as a phone, not a mini-computer Do we really need all these gadgets and gizmos and other pointless apps?

Anyway, on to the point of this post, this study really let us all in on something we didn't know *not the sarcasm*. Teen girls text more than boys. Raise your hand if you didn't already know that.

Can you believe that money was actually spent studying this? I mean, this is what we spend our hard earned tax dollars on, to find out that girls text more than boys. Do we really need to know that?

And we wonder why we don't live in a future like we expected because of The Jetsons and Back to the future II, its because of these stupid studies!

Good and bad

Last night, I went to hear my goddaughter's band concert. I won't go into detail, but say that it was bad...very bad. I'm seriously thinking of talking to her parents about getting her placed into a much better program (like mine...lol)

As bad as it was, I must say, I was ecstatic to come home and find out that the heavens opened up and Kate was voted off Dancing with the Stars!

Of course, I totally forgot to set the DVR for Glee. Hopefully I'll be able to find the episode on line.

So, it was a mix of good and bad last night. I was more happy to get away from this overly busy schedule I'm on right now than anything. The sooner school is out and I can get to catching up on the sleep I'm missing, the better. Of course, knowing me, I'll wake up earlier then than I do now.

I had a request to pull something out of the 90s for this week's Musical Monday. Please enjoy Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train"

Eye Candy 4/18

Female Hottie: Zoe Saldana

The first hottie for this week is Zoe Saldana. All of a sudden she seems to be everywhere from last summer's Star Trek to the forthcoming movies The Losers, as well as starring in Deth at a Funeral and being motion captured in order to star in Avatar. I first learned of her in Drumline. This multiethnic beauty seems to be poised for a breakout year.

Male Hottie: Eric Dane

Affectionately referred to by millions of women who drool over the men and intertwine themselves in the storylines of Grey's Anatomy as McSteamy, this week I bring you Eric Dane. Dane has also had some success on the big screen, starring in Marley & Me, X-Men: The Last Stand, Valentine's Day and some guest spots on TV shows like Charmed, Roseanna, Married...with Children and he can be seen returning to the big screen with Cher and Christina Aguilera in Burlesque.

Random hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Sarah Carter

This week's random hottie comes from the movie DOA: Dead or Alive. Sarah Carter can currently be seen on CSI: NY, While her resume isn't exactly lengthy, she has had a variety of guest roles on shows such as Smallville, Entourage, Numb3rs, Boston Legal, Dark Angel, as well as some big screen work in movies like Skinwalkers, Red Mist, and National Lampoon's Pledge This!. Hopefully her career will taker a major upswing and we'll see more of her soon enough.

MILF: Jennifer Hudson

Our MILF for the week is someone who has become a success despite not winning American Idol. Jennifer Hudson may have come in 7th in her season of the show, but who else that has been on there can boast winning an Oscar? She gave birth to a son in August and is now a spokesperson for Weight Watchers.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Shelley Winters

Looking at that picture, you would never know that it was Shelly Winters, if you saw her in her later years, but true enough, it is. Shelley Winters had a nearly 50 year career, starring in films such as A Place in the Sun, The Diary of Anne Frank, Pete's Dragon, Alfie, Alice in Wonderland, Cleopatra Jones, etc. It has been stated that her personal life rivaled that of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor (she was married 4 times). Her TV appearances include Here's Lucy, Batman, and Roseanne. Shelly has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as one in her home town of St. Louis.

How?!?

I don't know how many of you watch Dancing with the Stars. I, myself, only catch bits and pieces of it, then watch the highlights on shows like The Soup.

However, with Chuck being a rerun Monday night, I actually caught a good chunk of the entire show...until Big Bang Theory came on.

I have but one complaint. How is Kate Gosseling still there? Are those insane housewives who do nothing more than sit at home eating bon bons and watch soap operas all day actually that numerous that they're single handily keeping her in this thing?

Seriously, she sucks beyond all recognition. I know that Buzz Aldrin, who was voted off last week, wasn't that great, but he was better than her. She just looks like a blow up doll being dragged across the dance floor by her partner.

Don't even get me started on her crying and trying to make everyone feel sorry for her because the paparazzi chase her down. If she didn't want that life, then she should have never done that blasted Jon & Kate Plus 8. It's that simple.

So, I"m seriously thinking I may have to start voting, if for no other reason that to see this no talent hack get what she deserves.

Stroll on

I'm not a dog person by any stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, I hate the evil creatures.

My personal feelings aside, the lady at the end of the complex is your typical retiree. Don't know much about her, except she's friendly and seems a bit...shall we say...eccentric.

Today, my eccentric theory was proven as I saw her walking her dogs. Nothing wrong with walking dogs, unless you've dressed them up in kids' clothing and put them in a stroller.

I seriously have to question this woman's mental status, but she could just really love her dogs.

Eye Candy 4/11

Female Hottie: Kristin Davis

Best known for her time on Sex and the City, Kristin Davis is one of underrated beauties of Hollywood. Aside from Sex and the City, Davis has appeared in Couples Retreat, Deck the Halls, General Hospital, and voiced Miss Spider on Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids. She'll be returning to the big screen this summer with Sex and the City 2.

Male Hottie: Seal

Here we go, another British guy. Seal is a Grammy Award winning singer who somehow managed to marry Heidi Klum. Not sure what that thing is on his face, but women seem to like it. Some of his biggest hits include "Kiss From a Rose", "Crazy", "Fly Like an Eagle", and "Amazing".

Random hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Michaela Conlin

This week's random hottie comes to us from the TV show Bones. Michaela Conlin also had a small role in Enchanted, but many of her lines were cut. Hopefully we'll see more of her in the future.

MILF: Alessandra Ambrosio

This week's MILF comes to us from the modeling world. Alessandra Ambrosio is a Victoria's Secret model, and has been described as the next Tyra Banks because of her curves. She gave birth to a daughter in 2008.

Retro/Classic Hottie: Dixie Carter

This week's retro hottie just left us sometime yesterday. Best known for her role on Designing Women, Dixie Carter (not to be confused with the manager of TNA wrestling, Dixie Carter) was one of those women who exuded style and grace throughout her career. Apart from Designing Women, she also had roles on Diff'rent Strokes, Hope & Faith, On Our Own, and recently was nominated as outstanding guest star for a role on Desperate Housewives. As of the time I'm writing this, details are still coming in on cause of death, but she was only 70. She will be missed, but she leaves behind quite a resume for us to enjoy.

Affliction Outbreak

So, since the new year started 5...count 'em...5 of my friends that are band directors have been hospitalized for some sort of chest/heart problems. Only one has had a recurring issue with these problems since birth. 2 of them have lost their jobs because of these health issues (although one of had other issues with administration that also factored in).

I told the little woman this and she asked how long it would be until I fell ill. Ha Ha...sure it was a nice little joke, but I do have to wonder. Is there that much stress in my chosen profession that it causes us to have ulcers, heart attacks, and the like?

Other than food poisoning (gotta love middle school cafeteria food), I haven't had any health issues *knock on wood* and I plan on keeping it that way, but I do have to wonder.

Return

AS you all know, last week I was on vacation since it was Spring Break. I've spent this week returning to the grind of the normal week. I've been trying to get my drops in, but having that time away has made me a bit lethargic in terms of drpping? Mayhaps I could be leaving Entrecard sooner, rather than later. WE'll see, but in the meantime, things should be fully back to normal around here...then again...what is normal?

Eye Candy 4/4

Female Hottie: Shannen Doherty

This week's female hottie was just eliminated from Dancing with the Stars (even though Kate Gosselin more than deserved to go...but I won't get into that). Doherty has been around for awhile, but is best known for her roles on Beverly Hills 90210, Heathers, and on the television series Charmed. As a little girl she was also on Little House on the Prairie. She has had some personal issues that have kept her from achieving her true potential (or staying on a show for more than season or two), but that doesn't take away from her beauty.

Male Hottie: Sam Worthington

This week's male hottie comes to us from down under. Sam Worthington is an Australian born actor who has one of the hottest careers in Hollywood right. apart from starring in the weekend's (unnecessary) remake of the classic Clash of the Titans, he was in the mega blockbuster Avatar and last summer's Terminator: Salvation. I doubt we've seen the last of this guy.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Heather Graham

It seems like so long ago that Heather Graham first came to my attention in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Since then, our random hottie has gone on to star in a slew of films, most recently the one which earned her this spot, The Hangover. She also had a recurring role on Scrubs for a few episodes. I wish she would get more work, though, but I guess beggars can't be choosy.

MILF: Catherine Bell

I'm always hearing a commercial for The Good Witch or Army Wives, both of which Catherine Bell stars in, but she is perhaps best known for her role on JAG. Catherine already has one girl and is expecting her second this summer.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Rita Hayworth

Rita Hayworth was one of the greatest stars of the 40s, both as an actress and model. Her film resume is quite extensive, but her most notable films are Gilda, Blood & Sand, Cover Girl, and her final film The Wrath of God. This classic beauty is still revered for her talent, career, and beauty, and was named one of AFI's #19 greatest female star.

All good things must come to an end

Well, it'll be back to work Monday for me. The time away from the computer and actually getting some fresh air and doing constructive activities during my break has been refreshing and invigorating. It even has me thinking about doing thing more often and possibly finally giving up EC, since most of my computer time is spent dropping, but I'll make that decision by the end of next month.

In the meantime, I have the rest of the weekend to enjoy. I want to thank all of you that have been dropping and advertising while I've been away. For those that don't go already, feel free to swing by the move blog, as well (link is in the sidebar).

So, it'll be back to work Monday, and I have a ton of stuff waiting for me. Gotta start getting my 8th graders ready for high school band, which means teaching them the basics of marching. That should be fun, because that's when you find out that more than half of them don't really know their left from right...lol

On top of that, I have to finish writing music for a friend of mine's show as well as our own. Oh, and then there is this little thing called state contest that'll will be here before I know it. Not to mention spring concert. At least I don't have graduation to worry about. I have to say that's the best thing about teaching middle school...lol

So, now you see why I needed this time off?
