The great disconnect

For those of you wondering, I will not be dropping until next Monday. It is spring break and I want to enjoy it rather than spend the whole time stuck inside on the computer. However, I will be checking in on this and that and leaving my weekly posts and maybe a couple of others, but nothing too major.

Hope you all have a good week and I hope to hear from you soon!

Musical Monday

It was just brought to my attention that MTV in Europe still shows nothing but videos. Lucky!!! Anyway, here'sa flashback for those of us here in the states. A staple from the heyday of that once fine network. Please enjoy Dire Strait's "Money For Nothing".

Eye Candy 3/28

Female Hottie: Olga Kurylenko

Out first hottie for this week is best known for being a model or her roles in Hitman and Quantum of Solace. Olga Kurylenko is Ukrainian beauty with nowhere to go but up. Sure she could afford to eat a sandwich or 10, but I'm still not complaining. Look for her next year as Marie Curie in the movie RAD.

Male Hottie: Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is this week's male hottie. For some reason he doesn't like shirts, but hey, if I had abs like that I'd probably walk around all day with my shirt off, too. McConaughey is best known for his laid back, surfer dude attitude mixed with his Texan drawl. He was last seen in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, but can also be seen in Dazed and Confused, Contact, A Time to Kill, The Wedding Planner, etc. He doesn't have anything on tap that I'm aware of, but seeing as his girlfriend just gave birth to their second daughter this year, he may be taking some time to spend with her.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Jennifer Esposito

The movie Master of Disguise brings us this week's random hottie, Jennifer Esposito. Jennifer was last seen as Christina Applegate's not-so-nice friend on Samantha Who? until it was unceremoniously canceled. She has also been seen in Spin City, He Got Game, Crash, Summer of Same, just to name a few.

MILF: Mariska Hargitay

Geez, is anyone this week going to have a normal name? This week's MILF is Hollywood royalty. You may know Mariska Hargitay from her role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but did you know that she is the daughter of blonde, busty, bombshell Jayne Mansfield? Those are some good genes, if you ask me. Hargitay hasn't done much since getting the job on Law & Order: SVU, save for a cameo appearance in The Love Guru and some crossover work in the other Law & Order shows. She gave birth to her son in 2006.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Billie Holiday

Finally, someone with a normal name!!! Billie Holiday, otherwise known as "Lady Day", is arguably the best jazz singer ever to grace a stage. The argument between who is better, her or Ella Fitzgerald rages on as much as the Ginger/Mary Anne debate. Holiday had many hits, most notably "Lady Sings the Blues", "God Bless the Child", "Embraceable You", and "Strange Fruit", not to mention her countless other recordings. Her legacy is still alive and well as her influence stretches to everyone from Diana Krall and Christina Aguilera to even some of the younger singers such as Adele and Leona Lewis.

Boxed in

So, I came home and find this box on my door. The kind of box that holds keys for people to come in and look when you're selling your house. This would be fine if I was selling, but there are no plans of selling right now...especially in this market.

However, the neighbor, who is far from my favorite person, is selling his domicile. After calling the number on the box, they said they just put it on the wrong door.

I do wonder, though, if this wasn't some sort of cheap ploy by the dumkompf that lives next door to continue to try and make my life a living hell. I'll be so glad when he's gone, as will most of the people around here.

Pushed aside?

I have to wonder what ABC is thinking. I just read that they were planning on showing a couple of episodes of V this weekend as a way to refresh people's memories/bring in new fans for when the show returns in a couple weeks. This all well and good until....they decided it would be better to show an encore of the Dancing With the Stars premiere.

I'm not a fan of showing stuff twice in the same week on the same channel as it is, but to push something out of the way that hasn't been on the air since before the holidays for something that just aired on Monday. On top of that, it was one of the highest rated shows on Monday night.

Usually when a network will show something again in the same week it is because it didn't do well in the ratings or to fill up space. I have to wonder what ABC's motivation is behind this. Are they trying to kill V, one of the best new shows this season, much in the way they've killed Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty.

Whoever it is that's running things over there needs to be smacked around for this decision, that's for sure!

Health

So, I'm sure we've all heard about the health care stuff. I'm not going to get into some political rant about it. There are other blogs for that purpose.

My thing is, what is the real reason that people hate this thing? The answer is that it all comes down to money.

Have you actually stopped to think about it?

We basically have to pay to live. Example...if you get into a near fatal car wreck and are rushed to the hospital, you won't get helped until they approve your insurance (so they can prove you can pay for the care). Ir very well could happen that you die in the waiting room, all because of their money grubbery.

Why can't health care just be free?

To answer my own question...because health care companies and politicians want (they would say need) the money.

I am tired of hearing about this thing. Just pass it or not and let's move on.

Curse the snow!!!

How often do you hears someone who lives in the south curse a snow day? Well, I'm doing it gosh darnit!!! Why? Well, simple. Next week is spring break, but it was supposed to start after lunch on Friday, but because we've had those snow days this year, the almighty school board has decided that the extra half a day is needed.

UGH!!! I'm none too happy about this, in case you can't tell. Sure its only half day, but time off is time off!

Eye Candy 3/21

Female Hottie: Rosario Dawson

Making her second appearance in these posts, Rosario Dawson claims the title on female hottie of the week. This multi-ethnic beauty can currently be seen as Persephone in the movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. A bonafide movie star with model looks, Rosario is never out of work, and men (and some women) are always lusting after her. I'm sure we'll see more of her for a long time.

Male Hottie: Joshua Jackson

Arguably the most successful alum of Dawson's Creek (its between him and Katie Holmes), Joshua Jackson's career and his appeal to women have been doing nothing going upwards since that show ended. Currently he cane be seen saving the world on Fringe, but you can also see him in his other woks such as The Skulls, The Mighty Ducks (all 3 films), Bobby, Cruel Intentions, etc.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Katy Mixon
Our random hottie for the week come to us from the movie All About Steve. Reading up on Katy Mixon, it appears she is an up and comer in Hollywood. Sadly, it seems that the more weight she loses, the more roles she gets. Sad, but true. Such is the way of Hollywood these days. Katy currently stars in the HBO series Eastbound & Down, but you can also see her in her guest appearance on My Name is Earl, Two and a Half Men, or her movie roles in Four Christmases, Zombie Prom, or the upcoming Drive Angry. One thing for certain, though, is that we haven't seen the last of this buxom hottie.

MILF: Sarah Chalke

This week's MILF just became on in December. Sarah Chalke is best known as Dr. Elliot Reid on Scrubs, or as the 2nd Becky on Roseanne (I honestly can't tell the difference when I go back and watch those episodes). Sarah has also guest starred in a recurring arc on How I Met Your Mother as well as voiced Marie Antoinette on MTV's Clone High. Last I saw her, she was doing those weird wedgie free panty commercials and guest starring on Scrubs: Med School. I'm sure she'll pick her career back up full speed when her baby is a little older.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Gene Tierney

By request, out random hottie is someone I'm not familiar with, but is truly a classic beauty. Gene Tierney graced the silver screen for nearly 25 years, appearing in such films as Tobacco Road, That Wonderful Urge, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Black Widow, just to name a few. Along with her film career she also starred on Broadway and the small screen. Tierney, along with Gregory Peck, was the first to be honored with the Donosita Lifetime Achievement Award. She also was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Think Before You Speak

Someone forwarded this to me this week, and I figured I'd share. Hope you all get chuckle or two.

Here are six reasons why you should think before you speak - the last one is great!

Have you ever spoken and wished that you could immediately take the words back...or that you could crawl into a hole?

Here are the Testimonials of a few people who did......

*FIRST TESTIMONY:*

I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked
loudly, 'How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?'

I turned around and walked back out and never went back

My husband didn't say a word...he knew better.

SECOND TESTIMONY :

I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls.

I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good-looking gentlemen who works at the store. He asked if he could help me.

Without thinking, I looked at him and said, 'I think I like playing with men's balls'

THIRD TESTIMONY:

My sister and I were at the mall and passed by a store that sold a variety of candy and nuts.

As we were looking at the display case, the boy behind the counter asked if we needed any help.

I replied, 'No, I'm just looking at your nuts.'

My sister started to laugh hysterically. The boy grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away.

To this day, my sister has never let me forget.

FOURTH TESTIMONY :

While in line at the bank one afternoon, my toddler decided to release some pent-up energy and ran amok. I was finally able to grab hold of her after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons.

I told her that if she did not start behaving 'right now' she would be punished..

To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening, 'If you don't let me go right now, I will tell Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy's pee-pee last night!'

The silence was deafening after this enlightening exchange. Even the tellers stopped what they were doing.

I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank with my daughter in tow.

The last thing I heard when the door closed behind me, were screams of laughter.

FIFTH TESTIMONY:

Have you ever asked your child a question too many times? My three-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training and I was on him constantly.

One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch, in between errands. It was very busy, with a full dining room.

While enjoying my taco,I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my seven- month-old daughter, she was clean.

Then realized that Danny had not asked to go potty in a while.I asked him if he needed to go, and he said 'No' .

I kept thinking 'Oh Lord, that child has had an accident, and I don't have any clothes with me.' Then I said, 'Danny, are you SURE you didn't have an accident?'

'No,' he replied. I just KNEW that he must have had an accident, because the smell was getting worse.

Soooooo, I asked one more time, 'Danny did you have an accident ? This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants, bent over, spread his cheeks and yelled 'SEE MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!'

While 30 people nearly choked to death on their tacos laughing,he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down.

An old couple made me feel better, thanking me for the best laugh they'd ever had!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST TESTIMONY:

This had most of the state of Michigan laughing for 2 days and a very embarrassed female news anchor who will, in the future, likely think before she speaks.

What happens when you predict snow but don't get any!

We had a female news anchor that, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't, turned to the weatherman and asked:

'So Bob, where's that 8 inches you promised me last night?'

Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too they were laughing so hard!

Now, didn't that feel good?

Pass it on to someone you know who needs a laugh and remember we all say things we don't really mean, so think before you speak!!!!!

Retro Commercial Friday

Welcome to the first edition of Retro Commercial Friday. This will be a new feature here on my blog. I hate commercials, but the ones from years gone by were actually worth watching, so here I plan to remind us all or even show some for the first time. I hope you all enjoy.

Do school districts have nothing better to do?

In case you haven't heard by now, some school in Mississippi canceled their prom because one of their students wanted to wear a tux and bring her girlfriend.

A court fight is brewing after a Mississippi high school canceled its prom.

It all started when Constance McMillen, a lesbian student, asked to bring her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. The school in Fulton, Mississippi said she couldn't saying a same-sex couple would cause distractions.

"I just want people to know it's not alright for schools to do that." "I was raised to be yourself and proud of who your are," McMillen said. "It's like they're saying …don't be openly gay."

The American Civil Liberties Union calls it a violation of her rights and demanded the school change its mind. That's when the school canceled the prom.

"I just want to be able to go to prom and be myself and bring my date, just like everyone else gets to," McMillen said.

McMillen was told the school instituted the rule to prevent same-sex couples from attending because students were abusing discount ticket prices over the higher priced single tickets.

The 18-year-old senior McMillen expressed no regrets. "I've had people come to me and tell me I ruined their senior year… It hurts. There's nothing I can do about it."

Now, whichever way you lean on the political spectrum, you can't deny that this is wrong. These nuts are punishing the entire junior and senior class (I'm assuming it's a junior/senior prom) because they don't want to deal with what they think will be repercussions from having a gay couple at the prom.

Here's the thing, though...what harm will it do? If I'm not mistaken, this is 2010, not 1910! As stuck in their old ways as they are down in Mississippi, they need to get with the program.

When they canceled this prom, did they even stop to think about the other students? You know, the girls that have already shelled out an arm and a leg for their dresses, been on crash diets since after the holidays so they can fit into said dresses, and have sold their souls to certain hairdressers just to get a reservation.

I swear...people need to get over this homophobia and accept it as a way of life, much the same way they did with segregation. The more I hear about some gay person being denied something like this or not being able to get married, etc., the more I am inclined to compare it to those Civil Rights battles in the 60s. Sure, its not the same, but is it really that different?

I feel so sorry for this poor girl. I didn't go to my prom, but that was my choice. Looking back at it, I sort of regret that decision, so I can imagine what it'll be like when she's my age and wasn't able to go her prom because of some closed minded school board members.

I hope and pray with every fiber of my being that the ACLU comes down so hard on this district that they won't know whether to scratch their watches or wind their butts. They deserve it for this nonsense!

Eye Candy 3/14

Female Hottie: Joanna Garcia

Our first hottie isn't exactly a household name, but she is a cutie. Joanna Garcia may best be known to audiences from her role as Cheyenne on Reba. Last year she starred in the canceled too soon Privileged. Recently she has had guest roles on Gossip Girl, Family Guy, and How I Met Your Mother. It was recently announced that she will be starring her own sitcom for ABC. Here's hoping we get to see more of her.

Male Hottie: Sting

By special request, I bring you Sting as this week's male hottie. Point of clarification, this is the singer, not the wrestler. I swear I believe almost all of these guys that have been chosen for male hottie come from England. Oh well. Anyway, Sting early rise to prominence really took off as a member of the group The Police. In 1985, though, Sting embarked on a solo career, and well, the rest is history. Aside from music, Sting also has had cameo roles in a few films and TV shows and is a member and/or founder of a number of charities and causes.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Sarah Lancaster

This week's random hottie comes to us from the TV show Chuck where she plays the Ellie Bartowski, Chuck's big sister. Sarah Lancaster has jumped around a bit in her career, mostly doing guest roles, most notably as Gift Shop Girl on Scrubs (she was a blonde then). Her notable roles have been on Save By the Bell: The New Class, Everwood, Dr. Vegas and What About Brian. I wish she would get more work, but as long as Chuck is on the air, you won't hear me complaining about seeing this nice bit of eye candy.

MILF: Patricia Arquette

This week's MILF comes from the Arquette family. Currently starring on TV's Medium, Patricia Arquette has been acting since 1983. She gave birth to her daughter in 2003, earning her MILF status.

Classic/Retro Hottie: June Allyson

Our final hottie for the week is June Allyson. I know her best for her role in The Glenn Miller Story, but apparently she had quite the decent career, even picking up a Golden Globes along the way for her role in Too Young to Kiss. At one time, she was named the second most popular female actress behind the immortal Grace Kelly. Not too shabby, I'd say. Some other notable roles for her were in Best Foot Forward, Girl Crazy, Little Women, The Three Musketeers, among others.

Work...they're making me do it

One of the things that I look forward to, and at the same time, don't look forward to is contest. Sure, its the culmination of the year's work for students and all, but it is uber-stressful.

What makes it even worse is that this year, we're hosting the blasted thing, and of course boss lady dropped the whole shebang on me. One of these days I'll be the one in charge and can drop this stuff on my assistant...or at least the student teacher...lol

Anyway, the quicker Friday night gets here, the happier I'll be, because it'll all be over...unless we make state contest, then its even more hard work, but it'll be worth it!

My computer is the land of Troy

...at least it seems like it what with all the Trojan viruses that this new virus scan I downloaded found. Along with those, it found rootkits and cookies. In total, there were a total of 357 dangerous objects. Problem is, though, that these cannot be fixed by the removal program.

*SIGH* I guess I'll just have to pack it up and take it to computer geek to get it all cleaned, or find a better virus removal program? Any suggestions other than Ad-Aware, Norton, AVG, or House Cleaner?

Musical Monday

We're going to slow it down a bit for this week's Musical Monday and bring you one of the most beautiful pieces from a movie most of you probably have never heard of The Mambo Kings. I'm a little partial to this song since it was my last marching band solo in college. Enjoy Antonio Banderas singing "Beautiful Maria of My Soul"

Eye Candy 3/7

Female Hottie: Cameron Diaz

One of the most desirable women in Hollywood finally makes an appearance here in the eye candy posts. Cameron Diaz first captured men's hearts in The Mask (and what a way to *cough* bust *cough* on the scene it was). Since then she has been steadily working, modeling, and finding time to date the likes of Justin Timberlake. Sadly, she's single, but that shouldn't last long. Women want to be her and guys want to be with her.

Male Hottie: Alan Rickman

The little woman is obsessed with this man, I'm not kidding you. If she could stalk him and/or leave me for the guy, I have no doubts she would. I first became aware of Alan Rickman in Dogma, but apparently he's been around for a while doing everything from Shakespeare to action. His most famous role to date may be that of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. The man has talent and apparently women swoon for him, so why not give him a spot here, right?

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Krysten Ritter

Our random hottie comes to us from the movie What Happens in Vegas. No, she isn't related to John Ritter, but this apparent hybrid of Anne Hathaway and Rose McGowan is up and coming in Hollywood. She has 4 films in the works for thie next year, as well as the TV Series Gravity and the soon to be released She's Out of My League. You may have also seen her in Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Breaking Bad, or the movie 27 Dresses. Hopefully we see much more of her.

MILF: Monica Bellucci

One of the best things to come out of Italy since lasagna makes her second appearance here in the ranks of eye candy. I like to refer to Monica Bellucci as one of the world's most perfect women, because, quite frankly, she is. As if she weren't already a MILF, but she is expecting her second child this spring. Look for her in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, due out later this year.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Phoebe Cates

Our final hottie for this week may best be known for one immortal scene that for anything else she did in her career. I'm talking of course of Phoebe Cates' bikini scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. she made that movie when she was 19. Since then she went on to doa few other movies including both Gremlins, Drop Dead Fred, The Anniversary Party, but in 2001 she retired from acting. For some reason, though, I have a feeling she'll turn up on Dancing With the Stars or Celebrity Fit Club in the near future as a way to revivie her career.

New? Hardly!

It has been warming up steadily around here, so of course, folks are making sure that their air conditioners work. This was the case at work today. Principal apparently has the janitors test it out.

That wasn't the big deal, until it started making noises like it was about to blow the school up. What makes it worse is that there were issues with the AC when school started in the fall. Can you imagine a stuffy band hall with 70 middle schoolers and 100 degree temps? Not to mention the humidity!

They had it fixed...or maybe they just ghetto rigged it, but now its not working again. I guess its a good thing they tested it out before it got obscenely hot.

You'd think with a school that is barely 5 yrs old, stuff work. Then again, the old school had to be torn down because of a sinking foundation and this one was built literally 5 yds over!

Talk about cutting corners!

Not jumping up and down

Yeah, so last night Jay Leno returned to "his" spot as host of The Tonight Show. Unlike alot of people, I'm not jumping up and down for joy.

Why not? Well, think about it...he had this show that bombed in prime time and when he realized it sucked, he wanted to go back. That's not that big of a deal, except for the fact that he has put Conan O'Brien out of a job. Not to mention the fact that he's not even funny. If not for the ridiculous amount of money NBC is shelling out for this no-talent hack, I doubt he'd still be around.

So, what about you, dear readers? Are you on the same boat as me, and don't really care about Leno, or are you actually staying up to watch this drivel?
