Musical Monday

I know you're probably all tired of Michael Jackson this and MJ that, but since it would have been his 51st birthday this past weekend, I figured I'd give him the honor of being the feature artist for this week's musical Monday. I truly hope you enjoy "Liberian Girl". It's one of my favorite MJ songs, and one that not many people know of.

Eye Candy 8/30

Female Hottie: Penelope Cruz

I like to refer to Penelope Cruz as Salma Hayek-lite. She's not as, shall we say, "well-blessed" as Salma, and is thinner. All that aside, she's still hot and talented, so is it any wonder she makes the list? Could you say no to that face?

Male Hottie: Channing Tatum

I swear I was going to get beaten if I didn't put this guy up here this week, so ladies, here you go. Channing's star is shining brighter than ever due to his role in this summers G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. He's come a long way since Step It Up or that strip club where he used to work. While you're out there drooling over his 6-pack, don't fret, I'm sure there'll be many more photo shoots and gratuitous shirtless scenes in his movies.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Jamie Chung

There aren't many reality "stars" that go on to have actual careers in front of the camera doing things other than more reality. As a matter of fact, aside from Jamie, Elizabeth Hasslebeck is the only one I can think. Since Real World: San Diego ended, Jamie has been building her resume with stints on ER, Days of Our Lives, Castle, an ABC Family movie "event" Samurai Girl, and a starring role (which earned her this spot) in Dragonball Evolution. Let's hope we see more of her acting and that she doesn't fall back into reality hell.

MILF: Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless is best known around the world from her infamous role as Xena on Xena: Warrior Princess. She also is many a fanboy's dream to have as Wonder Woman...at least she was when she was in Xena shape. Still, can you belive she has 3 kids? Her career hasn't stalled since she hung up Xena's leather bustier, but at the same time it hasn't exactly taken off. Her biggest post-Xena role was on Battlestar Galactica. I'm sure we'll see more of her here and there. Who knows? Maybe lightning will strike again and she'll become another iconic character.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Ann-Margaret

I was watching Mad Men last Sunday and they showed a clip of Ann-Margaret singing "Bye, Bye Birdie" from the movie of the same name. It then hit me, that I've seen and/or heard this woman in many movies/TV shows, but it never really hit me how gorgeous she is. Although she is currently, semi-retired due to some sort of health issue, she can still be seen in the occasional movie role here and there. Keep an eye peeled, you never know when or where she'll show up.

Quote of the Week

When I'm not in my right mind, my left mind gets pretty crowded.

2009 in film. A question for my readers

Next weekend being Labor Day weekend marks the official end of summer. With that in mind, I pose this question to you all. What has been the best movie you've seen this year so far? There have been so many good ones, movies that fans liked ,but critics hated, and vice versa, as well as those that flew under the radar. So, do tell...

On a distant planet

It had to happen sooner or later, right? Guess they just waited a respectable amount of time before they started saying Michael Jackson was still alive. In case you hadn't heard, earlier this week, folks were saying how they saw MJ around LA.

There are two ways you can look at this. Let's say this is true. That would mean he faked his death, put his friends and family (assuming they weren't in on it) through all the anguish and bereavement, had that elaborate funeral, etc., all just to escape his fame and debt? From what I know about Michael, he wouldn't go through all this. Yes, he would want to escape, but not to this extreme.

On the other hand, the fact that they're saying he's alive further cements his legacy (as if it needed it).

I was thinking about something this morning. What if he indeed isn't dead, but instead was taken by aliens to a far away planet populated by the celebrities who died too soon. You know the place...its where Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, 2Pac, James Dean, Aaliyah, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez, Selena, end even the Crocodile Hunter, as well as a whole mess of others, have all gone, but the aliens that took them want us to believe they're dead.

lol Yeah, I know, that's a bit far fetched...or is it?

It's all fun to think about that, but one thing is for certain, IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON! I'm a big MJ fan, and I would love for i to turn out that he is alive, just kidnapped and hidden away by the mafia or something, only to be replaced by one of his impersonators. However, that isn't the case. People can't let go of this story, especially the media.

I say this as I'm watching Ted Kennedy's funeral and thinking, this guy was a U.S. Senator, and didn't get 1/4 of the coverage MJ (or Anna Nicole, for that matter) received.

I'm not gonna go off on a rant on that, but rather just say that after this week, we shouldn't hear anymore about MJ, except for on occasional reflection. I say that because it would have been his 51st birthday today, as a matter of fact.

We'll see if that actually happens. In the meantime, who wants to come with me to look for this planet? lol

I've heard some stupid things, but this takes the cake

It seems like these days, celebrities just go around spouting off stupid stuff to get headlines. If you want to call Heidi and Spencer Pratt celebrities (I don't), then they are masters of this craft, even better than Megan Fox. These wastes of space have already been ostracized by E! to the point to where they won't cover anything about them unless it's actual news for the sheer fact that their annoying.

Normally I could care less about these two, but what they've said recently just takes the cake. Have a read:

Spencer Pratt tells MTV's "The After Show" that his wife Heidi is the "new, modern day, 2010 Michael Jackson."

When host Jessi Cruickshank points out Jackson is dead, Spencer gestures to Heidi and says, "Yeah, but here it is, it's living, like the Holy Spirit."

"Like, Michael Jackson's in heaven," he continues. "The Holy Spirit now has Michael Jackson juice, so boom! For all we know, Heidi gets possessed with Michael Jackson's divine spirit."

"So Heidi is the new Michael Jackson?" Cruickshank
questions.

"Oh, way bigger," Spencer asserts...

Are you kidding me? Seriously? WTF?!?

First of all, Michael actually had talent. There can be no "next" Michael Jackson. Second, he actually worked to get where he was, not force himself down everyone's throats (even though no one likes her). Finally, this whole thing about his spirit coming down and fill her is b.s.!

If Michael's spirit was going to fill anyone, it would more than likely be one of his children or nieces and nephews.

This is just offensive, especially since the man isn't cold in his grave yet (if they've even buried him yet). I want to say they need to keep his name out of their mouths, but I can't very well go around telling people what they can and can't say, but they need to get a control on it.

I'm appalled that they said this, regardless of whether it was for publicity (because that's all these douchebags want). Some things should just never be said.

Elitist...trash collectors?

Guess what? More issues around here where I live. This time, its the trash collectors that have demands. As I've said in previous posts, the people around here are rather elitist, and if they see something they don't like, they bitch and moan about it (pardon my language) ad nausea, until something gets done.

Well, this seems to have infected the trash collectors now. We all got a notice today that our receptacles were to be placed, get this, in a perfectly straight line on the other side of the parking lot.

Now, I realize that this is supposed to make it easier for them and all, but the problem here is that the place where they want the trash cans placed will obstruct a good portion of the parking lot, not to mention make it very hard to get out in the morning.

Of course, they didn't think...or don't care, about that, as they go on to say that if we don't follow this "request" (demand is more like it), they won't pick up the trash. WTF?!?

We have a homeowner's meeting tomorrow to discuss what to do about this. I see the purpose in making it easier for them and all, but the threat seems a bit much. To me its like if they don't get what they want, they're going to huff and puff until they do.

Eye Candy 8/23

Female Hottie: Norah Jones

This week's vision of loveliness is the multi Grammy award winning, gorgeous Norah Jones. She hasn't released anything in the past 2 or 3 years, but that doesn't mean she's any less beautiful. I'm a little jealous of her because she got into the University of North Texas' music school (then dropped out to pursue her career). Someone needs to tell her to get back in the studio so we can hear and see more of her.

Male Hottie: Freddie Prinze, Jr.

At great risk to my manhood, I'll admit that Freddie Prinze, Jr. at one time was one of my favorite actors. This was around the time he was doing those movies She's All That, Boys and Girls, Down to You, etc. Then came Scooby Doo. Things haven't been the same between us since then, but he does have a hot wife (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and earned back some cred with me by handling his own on WWE Monday Night Raw. Ladies, be on the look for him in the upcoming season of 24 (we won't mention his failed sitcom, Freddie)

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Olesya Rulin

This week's random hottie comes to us from High School Musical 3: Senior Year (don't judge me). Forget Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, Olesya, who hides her hotness behind glasses and a piano in those movies, is the best looking girl in those movies. She currently has a recurring role on the ABC Family series, Greek. I'm sure bigger and better things are in store for her, even though it seems she's the only member of the HSM cast to not breakthrough into mainstream success. Maybe someone should call Dancing With the Stars?

MILF: Nicole Kidman

Anyone remember when she was married to Tom Cruise. Looking back on the way things have played out, I have to wonder if their divorce was her way of telling the world he was crazy. Strangely enough, once she divorced Tom, her career took off and she hasn't looked back since, except to take care of their 2 kids, not mention her newest addition with new hubby Keith Urban. 3 kids and still looks like that...I'd say she's more than deserving of MILF status, wouldn't you?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Daisy Fuentes

Remember those days when MTV used to play videos? Don't they seem like ancient history? Well, Daisy was the first Latina VJ. She also went on to co-host America's Funniest Home Videos for a few years. Currently, she is responsible for some kind of pilates exercise "game" for the Wii (Daisy Pilates) and has her hand in numerous charities, as well as her own clothing line, not to mention she still does her fair share of modeling. Maybe she'll get back in front of the camera one day.

Flap

I'm not one to make catty comments about people's personal appearance or what have you, but today while the little woman and I were in Whole Foods, there was this woman whose skin was literally hanging off her.

She looked like she had recently lost a lot of weight, though, so its not like it was just hanging there. My guess is she had some kind of weight loss surgery and just hadn't paid to get the excess skin removed yet. Still, it was a bit strange to see someone out in public with the skin hanging off of them like that.

I don't want to sound insensitive or anything, but it was literally dragging on the floor behind her. She needs to have something done about that, not just for cosmetic reasons, but also for health/sanitary reasons.

Quote for the week

If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

This is a new feature for the blog...so look for new ones each Saturday.

Just around the corner

As I was watching my beloved Dallas Cowboys put a whuppin' on the Tennessee Titans last night, it finally hit me that football season is just around the corner. Usually down here, the first sign of it is the car commercial start using LSU playing "Tiger Rag", but for the time being they're using the Cash for Clunkers deal.

Also, last night, whatever it was that was supposed to be on ABC at 7, was pre-empted so that the local channel could give some kind of in-depth coverage of each area high school. Since I work at a middle school now, I had no idea when the season actually started, but apparently jamborees are next week. I do believe this will be the first fall I won't HAVE to go to any games since my freshman year of high school. Wow! I can actually go to a game and enjoy it!

Guess I need to stop procrastinating and set up my fantasy football teams soon.

Photobucket and Netflix issues as well as some EC stuff

I have 2 photobucket accounts. 1 for my own personal use and the other i use exclusively for blog pictures. I knew that I was getting on up there in space and whatnot, but i never thought the day would come where I would be 99% full. So, I figured a way to continue with my pics, and that is start another account. For some reason, you can only have one account per e-mail address, though. Long story short, I'm in the process of moving a couple of albums to my new photbucket acct. It's quite tedious, but i was doing them one by one when I first started, as opposed to bulk uploading. hopefully, I'll finish this weekend, and can free the space.

Wednesday has become family movie night in this house. What I mean by that is that usually I pick a fairly shirt family/animated film from my Netflix list and watch it. Well, this week I got Happily N'Ever After, but it was so scratched up and damaged that it wouldn't even get past the previews. I immediately filed a complaint, and should get a replacement tomorrow. all the trouble I've gone through for this thing better be worth it, but I have a feeling it's gonna suck.

Whoever is running EC now has already started with the lies. I got an e-mail the other day saying that they had a few new features. I forgot hat they were, but I do recall them saying that they had deleted all the blogs with no widget. This is so not true! I know this for a fact, because there are about 3 or 4 on my favorites list that have no widget, not to mention on my EC profile, my movie blog still shows up (but I think it just the widget). *SIGH* I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with...ZipRunner, is it?

Discrimination at a pool

I heard about this in passing the other day and couldn't believe my ears!

A Muslim woman garbed in a head-to-toe swimsuit — dubbed a "burquini" — may have opened a new chapter in France's tussle between religious practices and its stern secular code.

Officials insisted Wednesday they banned the woman's use of the Islam-friendly suit at a local pool because of France's pool hygiene standards — not out of hostility to overtly Muslim garb.

Under the policy, swimmers are not allowed in pools with baggy clothing, including surfer-style shorts. Only figure-hugging suits are permitted.

Nonetheless the woman, a 35-year-old convert to Islam identified only as Carole, complained of religious discrimination after trying to go swimming in a "burquini," a full-body swimsuit, in the town of Emerainville, southeast of Paris.

She was quoted as telling the daily Le Parisian newspaper that she had bought the burquini after deciding "it would allow me the pleasure of bathing without showing too much of myself, as Islam recommends."

"For me this is nothing but segregation," she said.

The issue of religious attire is a hot topic in France, where head-to-toe burqas or other full-body coverings worn by some Muslim fundamentalists are in official disfavor.

France is home to western Europe's largest Muslim population, estimated at 5 million, and Islam is the nation's second religion after Roman Catholicism.

A 2004 law banning the wearing of Muslim head scarves at public schools sparked fierce debate. That legislation also banned Jewish skullcaps and large Christian crosses in public classrooms.

French lawmakers recently revived the issue of Muslim dress with a proposal that the burqa and other voluminous Muslim attire be banned.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, a conservative, backs the move, saying such garb makes women prisoners.

The "burquini" covers the arms to the wrists and the legs to the ankle and has a hood to cover neck and hair.

An official in charge of swimming pools for the Emerainville region, Daniel Guillaume, said the refusal to allow the local woman to swim in her "burquini" had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with public health standards.

"These clothes are used in public, so they can contain molecules, viruses, et cetera, which will go in the water and could be transmitted to other bathers," Guillaume said in a telephone interview.

"We reminded this woman that one should not bathe all dressed, just as we would tell someone who is a nudist not to bathe all naked," he said.

Guillaume said France's public health standards require all pool-goers to don swimsuits for women and tight, swimming briefs for men — and caps to cover their hair. Bathers also must shower before entering the water.

Guillaume said Carole had tried to file a complaint at a local police station, but her request was turned down as groundless.

Carole told the daily Le Parisien she would protest with the help of anti-discrimination groups.

Emerainville Mayor Alan Kelyor said he could not understand why the woman would want to swim in head-to-toe clothes.

"We are going back in civilization," he said by telephone. Women have fought for decades for equal rights with men, he said. "Now we are putting them back in burqas and veils."

The suits have a clear market.

Women "jump on the occasion so they can swim with their families. Otherwise, they end up staying on the beach and watching," said Leila Mouhoubia, who runs an online site from France that specializes in the sale of Islamic swimsuits. Sales, she said, are strong.

"I think it's forbidden (in France) because it presents an image of the Muslim woman (and) they have prejudices against Muslims," she said by telephone. "They want women to be undressed."

Mouloud Aounit, head of the anti-racism group known as MRAP, said the decision to ban Carole from the pool appeared fair, since pool authorities were observing regulations. But Aounit lamented that the incident was likely to fuel religious tensions.

I'm in shock about this situation, but at the same time, I'm torn. They were only upholding the regulations and can't be faulted for that, but at the same time, there should be some kind of provision for Muslims. It is against their religion to show skin, if I'm not mistaken, so for them to remove their head wear would have been out of the question.

I hate to say this, though, but I'm a little surprised this happened in France and not the US.

So, am I the only one that is torn about this? Were the French right? what say you?

Eye Candy 8/16

Female Hottie: Christina Applegate

We start this week's edition of "Eye Candy" with a woman who has gone from being a ditzy blonde on a rather cheesy early 90s sitcom, to a real life inspiration to all. Christina first came to our attention as Kelly Bundy on Married...with Children. Since then, she has gone on to star in a number of movies and TV, including the recently ended (too soon) Samantha Who? I personally regret not getting into it until this summer. She's also a cancer survivor (breast cancer, if I'm not mistaken). Beautiful, hot, and inspirational...what a mix!

Male Hottie: Stephen Moyer

Since I don't have HBO, I don't get to watch shows like True Blood (awesome show, btw) very often (unless I actually think to look on-line for them). So, when the little woman borrowed the DVD of the first season, she fell in love with this guy. Not sure what else he has done, but he's a real good in his role, but those accents are so far from authentic, they're just funny to me. Enjoy ladies!

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Tamala Jones

This week's random hottie comes to us from the movie, Head of State, where she played Lisa Clark, the object of Maes Gilliam (Chris Rock)'s affections. In addition to being a total babe, she has also starred in a number of urban movies, as well as guest stints on shows such as My Name Is Earl, CSI: Miami, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Castle, etc. I'm sure we'll continue to see more of her, maybe even in more of a leading lady role someday.

MILF: Angie Everhart

This week's MILF just became a mother this summer when she welcomed her son to this world on July 24th. Angie is known more as a model than an actress. She's appeared on several magazine covers, including number of issues of Sports Illustrated. Acting wise, she was part of the reality show First Wives Club and had a role in Last Action Hero with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have a thing for redheads, so you know I'm just dying to see more of her either in magazine pages or on the screen, or both.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Mary Tyler Moore

"Who can turn the world on with her smile...?" The first lines to The Mary Tyler Moore Show ask a question that perfectly describes what it is that is so appealing about Mary Tyler Moore, even to this day. Aside from her own show, she also starred in The Dick Van Dyke Show, Rhoda, and continues to make appearances in a number of shows. On the big screen she has been seen starring in films such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ordinary People, Change of Habit, and a number of others. Today, at 72 years old, she is still alive and kicking, not to mention turning the world on with that smile.

Quote for the day

Here's a quote for today

"Practice safe lunch. Use condiments!"

Heat

Spent a good portion of the day outside today. While it wasn't necessarily the hottest day of the year, I started thinking. I really should stop thinking, the smoke coming from my head can be hazardous to folks' health...lol

Anyway, I was thinking, when is it going to cool down? Last year was pretty normal. We almsot had full season down here. I'm tempted to believe that was because of Gustav, though.

Usually, it cools down around late September, and really gets cold (for down here) before Thanksgiving. Then the yo-yo begins where we can't tell what season it is. I should start some sort of pool with my co-workers about when the first cool day will be. lol

Remember that thing called forgiveness?

Apparently, the Philadelphia Eagles do as they signed Michael Vick. I couldn't be happier. No, I'm not an Eagles fan, as a matter of fact, this is bad for my Dallas Cowboys, but the man deserves to be able to continue where he left off. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, all he did was kill some dogs. Had he run some sort of child porn, prostitution, or human organ harvesting ranch, it'd be different.

I'm sure there are more than a few of you out there that agree with the fans of Philadelphia, and the papers, thinking that he should be made to suffer for the rest f his days. As you can tell, I'm not one of those people.

I believe in forgiveness, especially when it comes to something this minor. It's bad enough on top of his 2 yr prison sentence, he has to serve a 6 game suspension and can only play i n the final two preseason games.

Let's not forget that it seemed as if no team wanted to sign him. Obviously, this would be a PR nightmare, but I think it was also a matter of bad timing. Had he have been released back in April or so, then teams that needed a QB could have mad decision with him in mind.

I read an article this morning where some columnist was angry. not because he was coming back to the league. Not because he was going to be an Eagle, but because he wasn't crying. Seriously?!? He's expected to cry over some dogs? Yes, I suppose he should show some remorse, after all he was in charge of murdering animals, but think of it this way. When you kill ants, flies, roaches, mosquitoes, etc, or have an exterminator come in and do it for you, are you sad for them?

People need to get over the fact that he killed some dogs and let him get on with his life. It'll be so much better for everyone. There really is no need to keep acting like a girl scorned on prom night about this. Forgive and forget. Michael Vick is not Osama bin Laden, but you couldn't tell the way some people act.

***side note: yes, i am a supporter of Michael Vick, but not of dogfighting.***

False advertising

I don't have any ads on this (except for EC) or my other blog, but I have noticed on many of your blogs, and the web ion general these ads

I may just be overly critical or what have you, but I can't help but think these are just lies and propaganda meant to fool those that are so desperate to lose weight that they'll believe anything. Fact is, short of getting lipo or cutting off some limbs, there's no way us normal people can lose this much weight that quickly. Celebrities are a different story, of course.

I know we all wish there was a way to go from fat to ripped in just 4 weeks without dieting or working out, but they haven't developed that miracle drug yet. If they have, its not legal and tested and all that jazz just yet...lol

So, what do you think when you see these ads?

Are we really that pathetic?

The other day, the little woman and I went to a movie. One of my (former) students asked if she and her boyfriend could come along, so I said sure. No big, right. Fun was had by all, as expected, but then I got to thinking....this was sort of a double date (unofficially). The sad part was that it was with a 18 and 16 yr old.

Normally, age is nothing but a number to me, but I can't help but wonder. Are we that pathetic couple that hangs out with younger people in hopes of grasping at the last bit of youth before it slips away? I tend to think not. Like I said before, this was a spur of the moment thing, and it just so happened that they asked to come.

What about our friends our age, you may ask? Well, fact is, scheduling something with them is next to impossible. Last time we got together was the 4th of July. Before that it was the holidays.

Oh well, take what you can get I guess. Not like we're out doing unspeakable sex acts or getting them drunk or anything....although I do wonder what was in that coke they snuck in...lol

I still have a VCR

How many of you have gone strictly to DVD and/or Blu-Ray? Well, I would say I'm one of you, but the fact is, I'm not. My DVD player is a DVD/VCR combo. I use the VCR mainly for stuff that is one-time only and can never be replicated, such as my high school and college graduation, senior recital, tapes of old shows from back in the day (complete with commercials), etc.

what's the point of this, you may ask? Well, I wanted to watch Fat Albert the other day, so I put in the VCR. It's still in there. Stupid thing is eating tapes nowadays. Guess I finally should go get Fat Albert on DVD one of these days...lol

Oh well, better it be something that can be replaces or "upgraded" as opposed to something that would be lost forever.

Eye Candy 8/9

Female Hottie: Rachel Nichols

Currently starring in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Rachel is an up and coming actress who is quite stunning. Many may be more familiar with her for her role in Alias, though. She may have red hair here, but she is normally a blonde, which helps in keeping the confusion down since there is an ESPN reporter with the same name (who is a redhead).

Male Hottie: Vin Diesel

As far as action stars go, few are bigger than Vin Diesel. Of course, as an actor, he doesn't impress me much. Ladies seem to go crazy about this guy for some reason. Maybe its that deep voice, or the muscles, or his multiethnicity, whatever the case, hope you girls enjoy!

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Maggie Grace

Our random hottie this week comes from the movie Taken. Maggie Grace isn't a household name, but she did spend a few years on Lost. Something tells me we should hold on to our seats for much more of her in the future.

MILF: Milla Jovovich

This week's MILF doesn't look like she could handle a baby with her waif thin frame, but it wasn't that long ago when she was quite plump as she was pregnant with her daughter back in '07. I first laid eyes on this beauty in Ultraviolet, but didn't realize that she also starred in Chaplin, Dazed and Confused, and Return to the Blue Lagoon. She's set to return to the screen soon, gentlemen, in the next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Paula Abdul

In the late 80s and early 90s, Paula was a huge star, what with her numerous, catchy pop songs. After a little time off, she resurfaced on this little show in 2001 called American Idol, perhaps you've heard of it. Recently, due to some contract talks breaking down, she announced that she won't be returning to the show. Such a shame, since she deserves the money she's asking for. Take away some of Seacrest's $$$, its not like he does anything but be a douche the whole time, anyway. Here to a classy lady (when she's not on the pills...lol) Hopefully we haven't seen the last of her.

Last day of freedom

Remember when you were a kid and the last day of school would come and you'd just about knock the teachers over getting out of there to stat your summer vacation? Those vacations seemed to last forever back then, right? Well, these days it seems as if they're getting shorter and shorter.

Today is my last day of vacation. Tomorrow its back to work. The first pointless teacher's meeting of the year. Students come Friday. Don't ask me why they can'
t just wait and get things started on Monday. My guess is that it has something to do with being able to get supplies over the weekend.

I don't know where you all live or how early/late schools start, but down here they seem to be getting earlier and earlier each year. I dare say that before I retire they'll be getting out on a Thursday and starting back the following Tuesday. Mark my words!

At any rate, I'm going to take the day and try and enjoy my last day of freedom. Hope you're all having a good day!

Happy Birthday Satchmo

This week's Musical Monday I had intended to be a Louis Armstrong song, but changed it at the last minute so that I can give my idol a true tribute on his birthday. On this day in 1901, Satchmo was born. Although he died July 6, 1971 of a heart attack, he left a tremendous legacy and influence that cannot be matched.

Defintely a great musician, entertainer, humanitarian, performer, and human being.

A good day for a festival

Yesterday, the little woman and I took a little bit of a road trip n hour down the road to New Orleans to enjoy Satchmo Summerfest, a festival that honors the memory of Louis Armstrong (my idol).

I didn't get to go last year because of something or other...can't exactly remember why it was, though.

Yesterday was quite interesting, though. First of all, as we were leaving, it started pouring down rain. Now, before I go any further, I should let you know that when last I went to this festival it was over 100 degrees, then out of nowhere it started raining (with no clouds in the sky, mind you). New Orleans is humid enough as it is, but extreme temperatures and rain make it unbearably humid. so much, so that I nearly had a heatstroke. Thank goodness for training I'd received in the past from marching band and ROTC, or I may very well have passed out.

So, as you can imagine, we're thinking this may be a repeat of that experience. However, as soon as we get past this giant redneck haven store (Cabala's, I believe) it stopped and appeared to clear up. That's when I thought, if it could drip here and there during the festival, it could keep the temps down.

No more rain the rest of the trip, but we did notice this strange fence of sorts in the median. It looks to be basic steel cables, but it could also be some sort of power or phone cables. Not quite sure, though. It does seem a bit weird to have that random fence out there. Are they really that hell-bent on keeping people from crossing it? What about the cops that go over chasing speeders? I guess I can't really raise a ruckus about that thing without knowing what it is exactly for.

Finally we get to New Orleans, after crossing that never-ending Lake Pontchartrain bridge. I have issues with bridges, but I'll save that for another time. After parking in a safe parking lot. First time we went, parked somewhere and got towed. Since then, we figured it'd be better to pay the $20 or so rather than having to pay the $170 or so for towing and impound fees.

As were walking to the festival, this giant bus comes barreling down the road. If you watch ESPN,then you know who Chris Mortensen "Mort" is. Just so happened that he was in New Orleans for his tour around the country to each of the various NFL training camps. He stopped to get some directions, shake hands, show off the inside of the bus (it's quite impressive, if I must say so, myself), take pictures, and sign some autographs. The one time I have my camera and it decides to not work (dead batteries). Ugh! Still, I got n autograph, got to see the inside of the bus, and got to meet the guy that pretty much keeps my fantasy football teams winning...lol

Finally made it to the festival and guess what happens. BOOM! CRASH! CRACKLE! BOOM! Here comes the thunder and lightning. The lady that was on the stage said they had to cancel the music. Now, I'm thinking that they were going to call the whole thing off on account of rain, but it dawns on me that the crown just goes inside the U.S. Mint to wait it out, so we just follow. Got to see a couple of exhibits an bought a shirt while we were waiting, so it all worked out.

After a little more than an hour, the music resumes. I don't know how many of you are jazz fans, so I won't bother you with all the technical details, just know that they rocked. My favorites were this Japanese guy that learned from Louis himself and the final act with all the trumpet players at festival, including some kid from the Louis Armstrong jazz camp jamming.

Speaking of the Japanese guy, I believe his name is Yoshio Yakamura or something like that. If I didn't know it was him, I'd have though it really was Louis up there, I kid you not.

One thing I noticed as I was enjoying the music, was the enormous amount of cleavage that was passing by. If you've ever seen a woman from the Renaissance era, than you know that with the corset they have on, let's just say that their cups runneth over. It wasn't that bad yesterday, but there was a lot of cleave to see. I didn't mind, hey I'm a guy, but after awhile it did get distracting.

After it was all over, it was time to go. As were leaving, we nearly got run off the road by some cops. Turns out they were making a drug bust. Strange thing is, they were sitting right next to us in the Hard Rock Cafe not 5 min ago.

Tat wasn't the only time cops nearly caused us off the road. It seemed like they were trying to fill their ticket quotas last night, especially on the bridge. They were giving any and everyone a ticket, it seemed like. No ticket for us, though. --whew--

So, that was my day. It was quite enjoyable this year. My thought about the rain keeping the temps down turned out to be true! Made for a much more enjoyable experience, that's for sure! Not to mention it was FREE!!!!

Hope you all had a good weekend!

Milestones

August brings about a few milestones.

First, I am now over 500 posts in both my blogs! I don't even recall which were #500. Is that good or bad? lol

Speaking of my other blog, tomorrow will mark it's 1 yr blogiversary. It would really love some comments for presents...lol Seriously, though, I started that one as a favor for a friend and now its become just as much a hobby and pleasure as this one, but since I don't have EC over there, traffic isn't as heave. Ironically, when you type it in to google, it comes up first, as opposed to this which is like 2 or 3 pages in.

Finally, in 10 days, I'll be 31! Yikes! Just in time for school to start back and me to get back to work Thursday and students going back on Friday. Not quite sure why the meeting can't be on Friday and students start on Monday. Just seems a bit of a waste to start on Friday, but that's just me.

Thanks to everyone that reads these things (and comments). You guys are greatly appreciated!

Eye Candy 8/2

Female Hottie: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger graces us with her presence this week. You may know her best from such movies as Troy and both National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. This woman is drop dead gorgeous and has the talent to o with the looks. Let's look for more from her soon.

Male Hottie: James Marsden

James Marsden has made a name for himself in two distinct genres that have nothing to do with each other, action, specifically superhero movies, ( theX-Men movies and Superman Returns) and musicals (Enchanted and Hairspray). He's also done a few comedies and other films in his career, and the ladies love his smile more than anything. Hope you girls enjoy!

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Moon Bloodgood

With a name like Moon Bloodgood, you better be hot. This week's random hottie is just that. Maxim voted her #20 on their Hot 100 list this year. Not too shabby. In case you're wondering where you can get a glimpse of her, she was in this summer's Terminator: Salvation, as well as Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Eight Below, and Steet Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (the role that earned her this spot). Rumor has it that we'll be seeing her on TV allot thanks to Steven Spielberg tapping her to star in his new production for TNT.

MILF: Emily Mortimer

Our MILF for this week is a little known actress who has actually done quite a bit of work. You may best know her as Steve Martin's assistant in The Pink Panther movies, but she's also been in the critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated Lars and the Real Girl, as well as Notting Hill, The Kid, Match Point, and appeared in a few episodes of 30 Rock. With all the work she seems to get, its hard to believe that she's a mother to a 6 yr old son, but indeed she is.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Loni Anderson

Loni Anderson is known to most all of us as the ditzy blonde secretary on WKRP in Cincinnati. Similar to Farrah Fawcett, that single, insignificant role cemented her legacy in the annals of hotness. Loni was married to Burt Reynolds for 5 yrs, as well and 3 other guys. Career wise, she hasn't had the best luck finding jobs, but she has had a few roles here and there, but no matter what, she will always be known as Jennifer from WKRP. Go on and ask it, who's hotter, Jennifer or Bailey?

Off to NOLA

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to give all a heads up that I'll be in NOLA today for Satchmo Summerfest, so my blogging and dropping will be postponed for a day. Fret not, though...for those you looking forward to my weekly edition of Eye Candy, I just need to find the pics and write up a little spiel and they'll be posted.

So, I hope you all have a good day! I know I will, as long as it does rain while the sun is out causing it to become ungodly humid like it did a couple of years ago.
