Attack of the menu

Can you believe I'm still feeling the effects of Hurricane Gustav?

For those that don't know or can't remember, a couple years ago that hurricane came through here and knocked the power out for a week. During that time, somehow my desktop was fried (thank goodness for the laptop that kept me sane until we could afford a new desktop come Xmas), all the food in the fridge and freeze was either spoiled or ruined in some way, and when the power returned, my television had some strange menu issues.

Those menu issues went away, then came back, then went away, and now they're back. The initial menu issues also came with the volume going down by itself. It also has been a bit of an issue with trying to turn the set on when these menu issue come about. For some reason, it makes the infrared thingy null and void.

Now, I've been wondering if its time to break down and get a new set, but fact of the matter is, there is nothing really wrong with this one, except this funky menu thing that is annoying the heck out of me, especially since along with making the remote a paperweight, the controls on the set itself don't work, unless a random sequence of them are pressed,m such as volume down and channel up (somehow that turns it on --scratches head--)

Ugh! I don't need to tell you how frustrating this has been, but I suppose it could be worse. Hopefully, this won't last long. It didn't last time, but I do think I will start putting a little bit away for a new one. This one's days seem to be numbered.

Have you tried unplugging it for a while in order for it to reset? When our TV starts acting like it has a mind of its own, that is what we have been told to do, and so far it has worked. The same thing applies to the cable box when it starts acting up.
