Thanksgiving music...where is it?

A friend of mine on facebook updated her status saying that "you can't enjoy Thanksgiving for all the Christmas stuff". A truer statement has never been said..er..typed. As a matter of fact, in some places the Xmas stuff went up after the 4th of July decorations. I'm sure where you live this occurs, too.

What makes it worse is the music. Come November 1st, the radio station that I tend to listen to on my drive to and from work became all Xmas music, all the time. I am no fan of Christmas music. Part of it is because it all sounds the same to me. Not that they actually sound the same, but they sort of all meld together. I'm not sure if that makes any sense to anyone but me, but I hope you get the picture. I won't go into the torture I have to endure having to schedule and/or play Christmas music every year for concerts/parades, but that's a topic for another day.

Have you ever noticed that there are no Thanksgiving songs, though? Halloween doesn't have any "official" songs, but there are quite a few that fit the holiday spirit. Anything patriotic works for the 4th of July. Romantic stuff works for Valentines. I'm sure there are plenty of Irish stuff for St. Patrick's, and "Auld Lang Syne" in New Year's song du jour, but can you think of any song that is commonly associated with Thanksgiving?

Why is this holiday so shafted in the music department? Maybe I should sit down and write a Thanksgiving song. It's long overdue, that's for sure.
