Where is the support?

When I was in high school and we made the playoffs, even though it was an annual thing, the stands were still packed. So much so, that the band had to sit in homemade bleachers in the end zone!

Fast forward to the playoff game at the school where I work and the student/home side was fairly empty. I think all the people there were parents and teachers. Most of the parents were there because it was senior night, I would wager.

Looking across the field and the team we played literally brought the entire town with them. Apparently, this is the first time in the entire 60+ years of the school's existence that they've had a winning season, let alone a playoff appearance, so its a big deal for them.

Initially, I didn't think much of it, until I saw tome of the highlights on TV last night, and our side looked barren, whereas the visitor/press box side was standing room only. Not exactly a good impression to show.

Making things worse, the few people that were there just seemed to be there. There was no excitement or anything. Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned, but seems to me if you're going to pay money to come to a game, especially a playoff game, then you need to at least show some kind of enthusiasm, not sit on your hands, regardless of how cold it may be (54 degrees by the end of the game).

I know that you may be saying, "what about the cheerleaders?" Well, honestly, they seem to have 2 or 3 cheers that they do the whole game, and don't really interact too much with the fans. If you've ever seen those cheerleading movies where they're stuck up and self absorbed, that's what these girls are, except they have no reason to be. They aren't that good and don't go to any national competitions...or any, for that matter.

I'm not the only one that noticed. One of the band parents, who is growing more and more frustrated with the school in general, was very vocal (including a expletive laden rant at the crowd using boss lady's megaphone) in her attempt to wake them up, but to no avail. Luckily, the team still won, despite the dead, almost non-existent crowd. They're talking dome (championship is held in the Superdome), but if no one shows up to home game, how cane they be expected to show up at the championship (if they make it)?

Hopefully, next week will have a bigger, more enthusiastic turnout, and I'm sure the principal and the coaches will have a few words to say about the lack of fans at the game.

Give me a break

Every now and then, there comes a time when yo need a break from things. for me, though, this comes in the form of a 48 hr break from EC.

No worries, though, I'll be back dropping Monday, and on the meantime will be working on catching up on my blogs.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Happy about socks?

Remember back in the day when you'd get new clothes before school. There was that certain feeling you got when you put them on and headed off to school. Maybe it was just me, though.

Well, I got a little bot of the feeling back today. Strangely enough, it was over some new socks. That's right..SOCKS!!!!

Such a shame that I get so excited about socks, but it is what it is. Come to think of it, last pair of socks I bought was a pair I had to buy for my band uniform in college. Yes, we had to have special socks. They had a design on them. --rolls eyes--

Anyway, I'm sure some of you have something that has surprisingly made you happy, right?

Worn out

I swear it seems as if I've been going nonstop since Thursday morning. With the game last week, waiting by the TV to find out where we would be going or who would be playing in the playoffs, parents coming in over the weekend, getting Xmas music picked out, and then Veteran's Day programs today.

Tomorrow is a bit of a respite, if you can call it that. Still have rehearsal and a full day. Not to mention I have to go downtown and play at some sort of ceremony, but hey, it's a quick few bucks, so I really shouldn't complain, right?

Thanksgiving break can't get here soon enough. I need a break. Still not happy we didn't get to have today off, while it seems like the rest of the country did, but that's a whole different story.

Eye Candy 11/8

Female Hottie: Shakira

Those hips don't lie! This hottie from Colombia has been steaming up men's hearts and the music scene since her first US record. Aside from her singing, she is also known for her belly dancing, a custom of sorts in her native Colombia, and how she keeps those wonderful abs.

Male Hottie: Common

Sure seems like this is turning out to be a musicians with one name version of Eye Candy, doesn't it? For those that don't know, Common is a rapper, poet, and actor. He was most recently seen in Wanted and Terminator: Salvation. For some reason women go crazy over this guy. I don't see why, but then again, I'm a guy. Nothing against him, but maybe my female readers can clue me in.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Lindsay Price

The new show Eastwick bring us our random hottie for this week, Lindsay Price. Lindsay has also starred or guest starred in a number of hit shows such as The Wonder Years, Beverly Hills 90210 (the original), CSI, NCIS, and most recently How I Met Your Mother. She was starring in the now canceled Lipstick Jungle. Looking at her resume, no matter what happens to Eastwick, we're sure to see more of her somewhere or other.

MILF: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Best known as Elaine on Seinfeld, Julia seems to be the only one that has successfully broken the "Seinfeld curse" with the success of her show Watching Ellie and now The New Adventures of Old Christine. Believe it or not she has done more than those 3 shows though. For instance she was the youngest female cast member on Saturday Night Live and has produced 2 sons, all while still looking great.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Anna Nicole Smith

Anna Nicole had such promise when her career started. A plus sized model for Guess jeans that got a shot at Hollywood. Somewhere along the road, though, her life went from glamorous to tragic, just like her idol, Marilyn Monroe. All that aside, the woman wasn't half bad looking, especially in the early part of career before she went all cuckoo. It such a shame she didn't have a better career, either acting or modeling, and left us so soon, but hey, she's perfectly preserved in pictures, right?
