Eye Candy 12/26

Female Hottie: Leslie Bibb

This week's female hottie, Leslie Bibb is referred to numerous times as the "Smokin' hot wife" in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Looking at this leggy blonde, its not hard to see why they chose her for that role. She has also appeared in Private Parts, The Skulls, Nip/Tuck, Crossing Jordan, ER, Popular,Law Abiding Citizen, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and is set to be seen in the upcoming comedy Zookeeper. I'm sure we'll always have plenty of opportunities to see this hottie.

Male Hottie: Jason Statham

This week's male hottie, Jason Statham, has been described as this generation's Bruce Willis. Not exactly sure what that means, but whatever. I am becoming a bigger fan of this guy by the day, though, as long as he keeps making mindless action flicks that are just fun to watch like Crank, Death Race, Crank 2: High Voltage and "normal" movies like The Transporter trilogy, War, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This guy's career is on the upswing and showing no sings of slowing down. He was last seen in the testosterone-laden movie The Expendables.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Lauren Graham

This week's random hottie is best known as being the mother on Gilmore Girls, although if you've ever watched even part of that show you know that it's rather hard to tell who the mother is and who the daughter is. She also has had a few film roles including the one that earned her this spot, Bad Santa. You know, she's the one that has a Santa fetish. One must wonder where she drew inspiration from for that role.

MILF: Amy Adams

It is well documented in these posts that I have a thing for redheads, so its really no surprise that she would eventually make this list, right? Amy Adams first reached mainstream success with Enchanted. Since then, her career has been red hot, with appearances in a variety of movie genres. She was last seen in The Fighter and is filming The Muppets. In May, she gave birth to her first child, a baby girl.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Lainie Kazan

Looking at that picture right there, and looking at her now, one would never believe that they are the same person, but that is indeed Lainie Kazan. Back in the day, she was quite the hottie. She even appeared in Playboy! Kazan's resume includes stints on Broadway, film, and television. Currently, she can be seen on Desperate Housewives

Death

It seems as if every year, someone that has an impact on my life seems to die on Xmas. A couple years ago it was James Brown, last year, it was my elementary school bus driver, and this year it was my favorite uncle.

Apparently, he passed away yesterday peacefully in his sleep. At least he didn't suffer. Darn cancer!

I'm not sure if I'll go to the funeral or not. I just don't think I could handle it, but we'll see.

Retro Commercial Friday

Do you remember...

X

Last night I made a post on Facebook about my frustration with A Christmas Carol not being shown on TV this year. As I was in a rush, I chose to use the shortened version, complete with X's.

Apparently, this is a pet peeve of one of my friends and she made sure to let me know it, and then proceeded to bitch about it on one of her posts and how if a person can't be courteous enough to keep Christ in Christmas, then she doesn't need their Happy Holidays.

I've since explained that I meant nothing by the X, but I still have to wonder...what is so offensive about saying Xmas?

As I said, I was just using shorthand, but I do know some people that prefer it be Xmas all the time. My friends come from a variety of religious beliefs, from Christian to Jewish, to Pagan, Agnostic, etc., so using X or just saying Happy Holidays works much better and doesn't offend anyone, but there is always that one person who takes things too far, you know?

In my opinion, how you celebrate the holidays and what you think the reason for the season is should be something for you and yours. Don't go around trying to make folks change the way they say/do things just because it doesn't fit into their beliefs.

At the same time, I do respect everyone's opinions and beliefs, so it is one of those things where you just can't please everyone. Hell, I'm sure folks get offended by sneezes these days. I'm just waiting to hear that some random person decided to sue someone else because they sneezed when they walked in the door and that was just sooo offensive...lol

Seriously, though, I don't see what the big deal is. Whether you believe this holiday is a stolen Pagan ritual, a celebration of the birth of Jesus, or just another day, is your business, but, as I said before, there is no reason to go around bitching about something as trivial as using an X!

I mean really, what good does that do? Is it really going to get you into heaven or keep you from hell by trying to make sure everyone says Christmas rather than Xmas?

*WHEW* I needed to get that out. Thanks for reading, guys!

They're just movies!

One of the traditions I have every year is watching A Christmas Carol on TV. The one with George C. Scott, preferably...and of course there is always Mickey's!

I am a little disturbed by the fact that it hasn't aired this year, especially since they showed the Patrick Stewart version (nowhere near as good) earlier this week, and last year they were showing it ad nauseum. Did I mention that AMC is showing Scrooged! Seriously, who wants to see that on a regular rotation like it is some sort of classic (which it most certainly is not).

However, that is not the point of this post. In my search for airings of A Christmas Carol, I came across a post on one of the message boards that stated that republicans must hate the ending and how it must be like a horror movie to them because of how Scrooge becomes generous with his money...blah, blah, blah.

Another person said that this was nothing more than socialist propaganda that Dickens was trying to brainwash the people of the time into believing. I'm not too familiar with socio-economic climate of England during this period, but both of these topics are a bit disturbing.

Seriously, who takes a simple book/movie and tries to twist it into something political? It is just a work of entertainment, nothing more....nothing less!

Of course, now that I think about it, I seem to remember Glen Beck claiming that The Dark Knight was a victory/metaphor for conservatives --rolls eyes--

If all that wasn't bad enough, apparently there is a flap over the casting of an African-American...well, he's British, but I don't know what the correct term is over there...actor in the upcoming superhero flick Thor.

Idris Elba is going to playing Heimdall, a Norse warrior/God (not too familiar with the lore of Thor, so don't quote me on that). Obviously, when you think of Norsemen, the first thing that comes to mind would be a pale skinned, blonde figure.

If I'm not mistaken, in the comics, Heimdall is as white as the paper and has brown hair. However, as much as I am a proponent for movies to be faithful to the source material, I have no issues with this. Skin color is not that big of a deal. Well, guess what, someone has taken offense to this.

When I first heard of this, I thought it was just some fanboys, but apparently, a hate group from St. Louis has taken issue with Elba's casting. Their website states

"It's not enough that Marvel attacks conservatives values, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin. ... It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves."

This has gone so far that there is actually a website called Boycott Thor that is filled with stuff related to making sure this movie is a flop just because this guy was cast! WTF?!?

In his defense, Elba had this to say

"Thor's mythical, right? Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That's OK, but the color of my skin is wrong? I was cast in Thor and I'm cast as a Nordic god. If you know anything about the Nords, they don't look like me but there you go. I think that's a sign of the times for the future."

I applaud his for taking such a strong stance toward this unnecessary hatred. I mean if this was something like Will Smith being cast as JFK, there would be a reason for the outrage, but as he said this is nothing more than mythological fantasy. No reason at all to be taken so seriously. Some people just want to create something out of nothing apparently.

In conclusion, I would like to say that these examples are proof that there are those in our society that take stuff way too seriously and read way too much into everything. For goodness sakes, THEY'RE JUST MOVIES!!!!!

Eye Candy 12/19

Female Hottie: Olivia Wilde

Those of you that watch House probably are more than well acquainted with this weeks female hottie, Olivia Wilde. Last year, she was named hottest woman. I believe it was FHM that gave her that title, but I could be mistaken. Aside from her House duties, she has also appeared in a few movies such as Year One, The Girl Next Door and can currently be seen in Tron Legacy.

Male Hottie: Georges St-Pierre

This week's male hottie, is not an actor, though he may have appeared in a few small projects making cameos here and there, but rather he is a UFC fighter. Georges St-Pierre holds multiple black belts in various forms of martial arts, as well as his numerous UFC titles.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Charisma Carpenter

Raise you hand if you have any clue who this week's random hottie is. Chances are, unless you're a big fan of direct-to-DVD movies, you probably have no clue. If you were a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, where she starred as Cordelia, then you know who Charisma Carpenter is. She was last seen in a couple episodes of Legend of the Seeker and had a role in last summer's The Expendables.

MILF: Nia Long

This week's MILF is one of those actresses that has an extensive resume, but not really any roles that would gain her instant fame. Her biggest jobs were as Lisa on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Debbie in Friday and Brandi in Boyz N the Hood. For the first half of the first season, her voice could have been heard as the voice of Roberta on The Cleveland Show. Currently, she has nothing in the works, but spending time with her 10 year old son, but that's sure to change before we even realize it.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Heather Locklear

This week's retro hottie, like last week's, seems to not age. Heather Locklear has been steaming up the screen for nearly 3 decades now, and yet she doesn't look much older than she does in that picture right there. She was last seen on-screen in the ill-fated remake of Melrose Place. I'm sure she'll bless us with her presence again, soon, though.

Quote of the Week

When I was a kid, Pluto was still a planet, music was played on MTV, and phones were actually used to call people!

1000+

I just realized that I have passed 1,000 posts! Woohoo! That's quite the milestone, especially since there have been more than a few times that I've considered shutting this thing down.

Thanks to everyone that has been a faithful reader/commenter! Let's raise our glass to 1,000 more!

My other blog is nearing this milestone, as well. So, if you haven't been over to check out the movie blog, why haven't you? lol

This just isn't right!

It seems like more and more everyday, people are focusing in on people's weight, be they over or underweight, or even just plain old average sized. Well, this just takes it to another level.

First off all, would you call that woman anywhere near overweight? Sure, by what we think of as a ballerina, she may be a bit on the heavy side, but even then, she isn't overweight!

Second, it is this guy's right (and job) to criticize, but there is a line that you just don't cross, especially if you're going to talk about a woman's weight, and she recently suffered from an eating disorder.

I applaud him for standing by his comments, but the fact remains it should have never been said. His job was to review the ballet, not the ballerinas. Now, if she was indeed "overweight" and it was causing her to not give a good performance, then that would be different.

As far as I can tell, though, this was not the case, and this guy was just being hateful. It is people like this douche that cause many females to develop eating disorders or commit suicide.

Judging by this interview, I don't think this woman is going to go that route. She seems happy and comfortable in her skin, and isn't going to let the writings of one uneducated dumkopf to get to her.

However, I still have to say that this isn't right! What if this had been someone with not as high self-esteem? Chances are, if he's said this once, he's bound to attack another ballerina...probably for something as trivial as not having long enough legs different color hair or something.

Geesh! How can people like this exist?

Eye Candy 12/12

Female Hottie: Natalie Portman

This little hottie is best known as Princess Amidalya from the Star Wars prequels, but she has done quite a bit more than that. She recently took a break from acting to pursue other interests. I think she was working on her degree or something. A face like that is made to be in front of cameras. She can currently be seen in the new movie, Black Swan.

Male Hottie: Orlando Bloom

This week's male hottie is best known for playing second fiddle to Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies or for being an elf in The Lord of the Rings movies. At least those are the films that made his career (and took up a good chunk of the past decade). For some reason ladies love this guy, so hope you enjoy this week's choice.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Emilie de Ravin

Emilie de Ravin is an up and coming actress in Hollywood. She has made appearances in Lost, The Hills Have Eyes, Public Enemies, NCIS, and the movie which earned her this spot, Santa's Slay. The future looks bright for this blonde hottie from Australia, as she has 3 movies in production. Let's keep an eye out for her, shall we?

MILF: Virginia Madsen

This week's MILF, Virginia Madsen, has been around for quite some time, although her brother is more of a household name. Appearing in such works as The Astronaut Farmer, Sideways, Monk, Wonder Woman (the animated movie), Dawson's Creek, Zombie High, Scoundrels, and will be in the forthcoming movie Red Riding Hood. Did I mention she has a 16 yr old son?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Christie Brinkley

This week's retro hottie, at 56 years old, doesn't look much different than she did when was at the height of her supermodel career. Christie Brinkley is one of the names that immediately come to mind when you mention supermodel (does anyone think of Janice Dickinson, seriously? lol). Aside from her modeling career, she was married to Billy Joel, appearing in his video for "Uptown Girl". To top all this off, she even made some film and TV appearances, most notably in National Lampoon's Vacation.

Video blog?

I got an e-ail this afternoon asking if I was slowly turning this into a video blog. The answer is no. I just haven't really had the time to post anything. However, Xmas vacation is coming up, so hopefully if I'm not passed out from exhaustion during those couple of weeks, there will be some actual posts.

Thank all of you for your patience, comments, and traffic. You are all more than appreciated!

Eye Candy 12/5

Female Hottie: Dita von Teese

In case you're not familiar with this weeks female hottie, may I introduce you the modern pin up girl, Dita von Teese. She's not an actress, but rather a model, occasionally delving into fetish modeling. She's known for her burlesque style of pictures and recently started her own fragrance.

Male Hottie: Robert Downey, Jr.

This week's male hottie is currently best known as Iron Man in that successful film franchise, but before donning the armor, Downey was in and out of rehab, and before that he was one of the "brat pack". Downey has had quite the career appearing in such works as Chaplin, Ally McBeal, Tropic Thunder, Sherlock Holmes, Due Date, Weird Science, Heart and Souls, Charlie Bartlett, The Soloist, Family Guy, and that's just a start to his resume. He is currently filming Sherlock Holmes 2, then will go on to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

Random hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Megan Fox
Megan Fox is known for her hotness and outspoken mouth. She appears in this spot after playing a prostitute in Jonah Hex. Her other roles include Mean Girls, Jennifer's Body, Two and a Half Men, Hope & Faith, Confessions of a teenage Drama Queen, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and of course, the role she is bet know for in both Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. For me, she'd be much hotter if not for the tattos and saying stupid stuff.

MILF: Julianne Moore

I love redheads...especially those that just turned 50 on Thursday! Uber MILF Julianne Moore has had roles in films like Boogie Nights, Evolution, Hannibal, The Kids are All Right and Jurassic Park: The Lost World just to name a few. I last saw her sharing an extremely hot love scene with Amanda Seyfried in Chloe. A very talented actress, her beauty is quite understated, as is the fact that she has 2 children. I, for one, didn't have any idea. Oh, and she just turned 50 this week!

Classic/Retro Hottie: Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball is one of, if not THE top redhead in my book (Christina Hendricks, Emma Stone, and Julianne Moore aren't far behind her). She is a classic beauty and comedienne from a bygone era. Most people know her as the lovable Lucy from I Love Lucy, but she also appeared in other film and television roles in works such as Mame, The Lucy Show, Too Many Girls, DuBarry Was a Lady, Forever Darling, just to name a few. Although she passed away from lung cancer (I think) in 1989, her legacy and timeless beauty are not forgotten.

No life

I was reading in the paper this morning how some local lady killed herself. Yeah, I bet you're wondering why I'm blogging about this, right? Well, apparently, she killed herself because a blog she was following didn't post and she "had no reason to live".

I'll admit that that I haven't been as good at blogging this year since I have way more work this year, but I at least try to get stuff up ASAP. I trust that 122 followers of this blog aren't putting their life on hold waiting for me to post. That would be quite sad.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you guys are followers, especially since most of us have left Entrecard, but isn't this just a bit much?

On top of other stories I've read over the past few years of how people have offed themselves because they couldn't log onto Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc, and now this.

What is this world coming to? Remember when if folks killed themselves it was for a "good" reason like a breakup, losing their job, etc?

*SIGH* Oh how I long for those days. I guess I need to get started on that time machine I keep saying I'm going to build. Anyone got some spare plutonim, a DeLorean, and a flix capacitor laying around (let's see who gets that reference...lol)?
