Music Monday

Happy Music Monday, everyone! For some reason, everytime I hear this song, I think it should have been included on the soundtrack for The Hunger Games. Instead, it was written as a sort of tribute to Gabby Douglas after the Olympics and a song for Alicia Keys' daughter. Please enjoy "Girl on Fire"

Halftime

A few fays ago I mentioned that the Super Bowl halftime show featuring The Who was nothing more than a way for the NFL to cover their butts and play it safe and conservative since the Janet Jackson debacle a few years back.

Again, nothing against The Who, but they just weren't that great. I've heard them perform a lot better, and while they are one of the greatest acts of all time, their relevance to those that actually stick around and pay attention to the Super bowl halftime show is almost null and void. I'm sure there were more than a few out there who had to ask their parents (or grandparents) who they were.

Fast forward to Sunday night and NBA All-Star game's halftime show featuring Shakira and Alicia Keys. Here we have two very talented, sexy women who put on an extremely entertaining show and there was nary a bit of controversy to be found.

The argument has already started amongst columnists, pundits, and their ilk about which halftime show was better. Personally, I'm leaning more towards the ladies' show. Neither of them gave their best performances and they still did better than The Who, who seemed to have been doing nothing more than hiding behind a laser show, or at least using it to distract out short-attention span society.

Either way, I'll let you decide.

Here's The Who at the Super Bowl

...and here we have Shakira and Alicia Keys (sorry, I couldn't find it in one video)

So, which show was better in your eyes (and ears)?

Eye Candy vol 15

Female Hottie: Alicia Keys

Alicia is a Grammy award winning singer and actress. Throughout all her success she has remained humble, a rare find these days, not to mention the fact she plays her own instruments. Talented and beautiful, is there any reason she makes this week's edition of "Eye Candy"? Side bit of info, Alicia's first acting role was in the Cosby Show. She was the little girl that got bounced on Cliff's knee at Rudy's birthday party. Bet you didn't know that.

Male Hottie: Robert Downey, Jr.

Talk about making a comeback! Has anyone had a bigger year than Robert Downey, Jr. this year? Movies such as Charlie Bartlett, Tropic Thunder and, in my opinion, the best movie of the year, Iron Man have people remembering that he is one of the best actors in Hollywood, even if he did have some problems and had to go to rehab. Apparently, the ladies never stopped loving him, though, so I figure he's deserving of this spot, plus he's Iron Man!

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Hilary Duff

Doesn't it seem like forever and a day ago when was Lizzie McGuire. My how she has grown up. Anybody want to call her "Duff Puff" after looking at this picture? Not with that stomach( even if there is some airbrushing done). Since the end of Lizzie McGuire, Hilary has had roles in movies and has released a couple of albums. Currently, she is in talks to star in a comedy for NBC and is promoting her newest album. She earns this spot for her role in War, Inc.

MILF: Gwen Stefani

A mixture of Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, with her own style, flair, and charisma, Gwen Stefani has made a name for herself in the music and recently the fashion industry. The mother of 2 is currently working off the baby weight from her son that was born in August as well as new music. "No Doubt" she is a MILF!

Classic/Retro Hottie: Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most beautiful women to ever grace a movie screen. With 2 Oscars to her name and slew of ex-husbands (8), as well as those beautiful blue eyes, she is the gold standard when it comes to the "Hollywood lifestyle" of her time. At 76, she is still alive and kicking, but is rumored to have numerous afflictions such as osteoporosis, brain tumors, cancer, etc. She is confined to a wheelchair and is very reclusive, but still knows who she is and was.

Musical Monday vol 13

Usually my "Musical Monday" posts are old school...predominantly 80s, but this week, I've decided to bring in some modern music. Enjoy Paramore's "That's What You Get".

Enjoy that? Well, take a look and listen to this song by up and coming Welsh singer Duffy. Have fun with "Mercy".

Last night was the American Music Awards. A couple of the big winners were Chris Brown and Alicia Keys, so I'll put up some of their music for you, too. First, here is Chris Brown's "Forever". You may recognize it from the gum commercials.

Now here is Alicia Keys' "Superwoman". Truly an inspirational song!

Ok...I just can't help it, we have to have something from the 80s. Hmmm...how "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. Don't worry, you won't be Rick Roll'd.

So, tell me, do you like this week's choices? Don't forget to join the Musical Monday movement!
