So, last night, around this time, I was doing my nightly droppings and out of nowhere the internet just decided to stop working. Now, I was getting a bit sleepy, and usually when the net goes out, it isn't out for too long, but I just went on and went to bed.
This morning, I woke up and tried to continue my dropping and lo and behold, still no net. WTF?!? 12 hours and still no net? I figure they're just working on something, though, so I went and ran some errands and came back. Still no net. Frustrated and feeling like a crackhead in his first day of rehab, I called the cable company to see what the deal was. Turns out, they weren't working on anything, but rather it was a problem with the the modem communicating with the router or something or other.
Anyway, I came to the realization that *SIGH* I am addicted to the internet. There I said it. As said as it is to say, I can't remember the time before on-line surfing. Had it not been for the power going out in September thanks to Gustav, who knows when I would have last had a disconnect.
So, now that I've figured out my addiction (there are plenty worse things I could be latched onto, btw), I've decided to step down on my net usage. We'll see how long it lasts, but its worth a try.

i know exactly where you are coming from. i think i would totally lose it if i wasn't able to get on the internet. i probably could wean myself by cutting back an hour a day. nah...don't think that would work either.
My DSL modem died on Tuesday. I had been online most of the afternoon. Shut down my computer at 5pm to go to an appointment, came back at 7:30pm and nothing. I must have made 50 calls to tech support, the first 5 to make sure that the modem was really at fault. The rest, asking questions on what modem to buy, where to buy it. Then it turns out no one had it locally so I had to order it from my provider anyway.
Yes, I am addicted. I paid for next day Fed-Ex. Does that tell you anything? It came today and I have to say that I feel a whole lot better. I set myself up on dial-up for the interim, but it was driving me batty. Normally I open 10-20 windows, but with dial-up I was waiting forever for 1 window to open.
Hello. My name is The Bee and I am a net-aholic.
I think most of us in the blog community know where you're coming from. But I totally agree there are worse things in the world to be addicted too (like cleaning your ass with a toothbrush) WHAT!?! Yeah I said it. I saw it on an episode of "obsessed" maybe one day they will show someone with our affliction, but I doubt it. Endless hours infront of a computer screen doesn't make for very good television.
PJ- lol think we just need to break down and go to an internet addiction class...lol
Lola-next day Fed-Ex? wow! you are beyond addicted...lol
