Tonight I was watching this new show on ABC called Cupid. Good show, btw. you should all check it out. Anyway, this couple that was on there that was getting fixed up had different political views. Those views were what kept them apart for most of the show...until the end. Y'know, typical happy ending kinda thing. They all live happy ever after with their son from a test tube. That's a whole different story altogether, that you'd have to actually watch or be better at explaining things than I to get...lol
So, back to the politics. I've never had the "pleasure" of dating someone with different political views, so I don't know how much of an issue it can be, but it apparently was enough to keep this couple apart for most of the episode.
I've always been of the belief that opposites attract. For instance, in one of my longer relationships, the girl was a staunch dog lover. I can't stand the foul beasts, but am a devout cat lover. You can imagine the issues this inevitably caused, but it wasn't anything we couldn't get over. (We broke up because she turned lesbian for those of you wondering)
So, if one person believes that we should always go around with guns blazing while the other thinks we should be carrying around apple pies and a smile (I'm severely exaggerating for the visual effect), is that really enough to keep them from having a long lasting relationship? I'm sure there many other things that couples can have in common.
What do you think?

Well, I always think of James Carville and Mary Matalyn. They've been married for quite awhile. Carville is a staunch Democrat who ran Clinton's campaign, and Matalyn is the polar opposite and even used to have (still has?) a show where she espoused her Reupublican views. I would think if they could make it work, anyone can.
I would never want to date someone with political views that were the opposite of mine. Of course, you can't help falling in love with whomever it is you fall in love with. Anyway, most conservative Republicans would away from me.
Shawn- a colleague of mine brought up Shrazaneger and Maria Shriver, so I guess different politics can work
Preston- i can't say i would want to either, but like you said you can't help who you fall in love with
