Alright, so its no secret that I like older TV shows. Well, I was watching I Love Lucy this morning and this thought came to me. If you listen to the theme songs of older TV shows alot of them are memorable, catchy, and you can't get out of your head. That can't be said about anything that's on TV right now...well, maybe some stuff on Nickelodeon.
I mean, think about the last 10 yrs. Can you actually sing or hum the theme song to anything that's been on? Other than Friends, I can't, and that's just because that thing was plastered on the radio when it first came out. Obviously, Spongebob Squarepants, Catdog, and Fairly Oddparents are all catchy, but I wasn't really considering them. I was talking about such programs as CSI, Law and Order, South Park, Will and Grace, etc.
Where did the composers of such cheesy, yet memorable theme songs such as Batman, Wonder Woman, I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Hawaii 5-0, Mucha Lucha, Green Hornet, Cheers, Golden Girls, Saved by the Bell, Perry Mason, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Green Acres, Sanford and Son, The Andy Griffith show, Happy Days, etc, disappear to? Now it seems as thought they're getting paid a hefty sum for like 30 seconds of fluff? I could be wrong. I mean, they could very well think that each one is their masterpiece, but other than some Nickelodeon cartoons, I can't think of anything that sticks in my head...wait...Family Guy and American Dad do, but that's 2 out of how many? Guess I'm just being anally critical or something? What theme songs from now or then stick in your head?

no I think you are right. There aren't really many good ones. Did you mention Golden Girls? I don't remember if you did, but honestly that song was pretty catchy but that's been years. The Andy Griffith Show tune STILL gets stuck in my head.
All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith -- ah, good ol' days.
Ahhh, Green Acres. Who doesn't love to sing that one at the top of your lungs?!
The Simpsons theme is easily identifiable, but, has no words.
Get a few people of a certain age together, and they all will know the words to Gilligan's Island, and the Beverly Hillbillies.
What about Happy Days and The Waltons? If you ask me, the shows have also gone downhill.
Sandi- yeah, i mentioned Golden Girls. that is a pretty catchy song, but how can you forget Andy Griffith, right?
Sherry- *SIGH* too bad those days have been replaced with reality shows and no theme songs
Lin- I know I do
Old Man- you know, i don't think i know all the worlds to Gilligan's Island (sad, considering how much o a TV buff I am), but I know the Beverly Hillbillies. AS a bvonus I know the words to Star Trek, I Love Lucy, and Bewitched...hahahaha
Karen- My mom loved the Waltons, but other than recording a few episodes for her a few years back, I've never watched it. Loved Happy Days, though. Such a happy theme
