So, this weekend, as we all know, unless you're lucky enough to have avoided the over hyping, the Jonas Brothers released their movie. Well, apparently, it underperformed according to the projections and comparisons to last year's Hannah Montana movie (which was pretty much the same thing from what I hear). I don't know exactly how much it made, but it came in #2 this weekend.
I told my students about this and about 3 or 4 girls started bawling. I mean literally broke down into tears. You would think I would have told them their parents died or something. I, and the rest of the class, were wondering what was wrong with them when this was going on.
I understand being a fan and all, but crying over a movie being #2? Seriously, that's a bit much. It's not like they made bets with their life savings on them being #1 this weekend...as far as I know. Still, #2 is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure the Street Fighter movie would love to have been #2, as would every other movie that's out right now.
So, am I the only one that thinks this reaction was a bit much?

that was more than a bit much. That was utterly ridiculous. I can think of a lot of other things to cry about and this is seriously not one of them.
it was ridiculous.
*giggle* those poor kids. ;)
so sad, right? lol j/k
They got my $30. I was surprised that we had a half empty theater but wasn't upset, that's for sure. My niece loved it and that's all that really matters.
OMG, that's too funny, and just sooo over the top! What in the world? I know that the media is "training" everybody to be so involved in celebrities lives that they seem like our own, but really!
I bet you didn't know what to do! ;)
Wow, when I first read this, by #2 I thought you meant, you know, number two, as in the going to the bathroom #2.
Which seems totally appropriate...
Orlando Bloom once said he was grateful for all his fans, and if they chose him to pin their hopes and dreams on, that was a pretty nice compliment. And I think he hit on something there--I think girls do a bit of transference, particularly at that age. They admire a celebrity and they kind of align themselves with them--and with the sheer force of their support they feel like they're contributing to the band's or actor's success (which in a way they are). Therefore they feel invested, so if the band doesn't do well, it feels like their own failure too.
And that transference is kind of a crutch to get through emotional stuff, too. If you have curly hair and get picked on for it, then this celebrity with curly hair comes along and you feel like there's hope for you to be popular and successful someday. And if that celebrity gets picked on, it's easier to defend them than to defend yourself.
This psychobabble was brought to you by a fangirl...lol. I don't think I cried over a band, ever, though. Even as a kid I never understood the girls in the audience who were wailing and weeping and tearing their hair out. All I ever thought was: "Dude, you can't hear them over all the screaming!" *G*
Wow! I couldn't help but laugh about that.
I remain blissfully ignorant as to exactly what a Jonas Brother is. I'm too busy training for the Zombie uprising to care about some random pop tarts.
LOL! Are your students by any chance related to Tatiana Del Toro? hahaha..
but seriously, that is totally ridiculous.
Lenox- too bad you can't get your money back, but good to hear your niece was happy
Diva- i just sent them to the nurse
Remo- lmao
Val- wow! nice psycobable...lol I get your point, though
Woody- the more I think about it, the more it makes me crack up
C.B.- when is the Zombie uprising?
Shemah- I actually liked Tatiana. too bad she didn't make it. Sjhe was a hottie! Daram queen...but still a hottie! :)
