Eye Candy 12/27

Female Hottie: Brittany Murphy

This week's female hottie is a bit bittersweet, as she just passed away 7 days ago. Such a shame for such a talented actress. She has two films left to be released and it will be interesting to see what direction they go with them, as they did with Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight and the forthcoming Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I know Brittany best for voicing LuAnn on King of the Hill, starring in a handful of films with then boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, and of course her breakout role in Clueless...oh, and then there's that little film she did...Sin City. Personally, I preferred her more when had some meat on her bones like in Clueless, but she was always a hottie. R.I.P. Brittany...you will be missed!

Male Hottie: Desi Arnaz

I decided to reach back for this week's male hottie. Desi Arnaz is best known as Rick Ricardo on I Love Lucy (Hallmark Channel needs to stop teasing and give that show a permanent spot like The Golden Girls...but that's a different story, altogether). Some may not realizes this, but he was also a successful band leader, and did have other acting projects sans Lucy, such as Bataan, Cuban Pete, and various guest appearances here and there.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Roselyn Sanchez

Our random hottie for this week comes from the movie Boat Trip. This Latina hottie may be known more for her looks than her talent, as she is usually cast as the super hot dance instructor or similar character. Nothing wrong with that...but I'm sure to her as an actress she wants more. You can see her in Rush Hour 2, Basic, and The Game Plan. Currently, she is starring in Without a Trace.

MILF: Dana Jacobsen

I don't know what it is, but there is just something about ESPN First Take (formerly Cold Pizza) co-anchor Dana Jacobsen. Maybe its because she resemble the girls I dates in high school. Dana is the mother of two children.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Jane Fonda

Our classic hottie for the week may best be known for her workout videos and political views than her acting career, but with a body like she had back in the day...well, need I say more? I haven't seen much of Jane's work, but I did catch the odd, erotic space feature Barbarella a few weeks ago. She has quite the resume to her name, and is still going strong. Last thing I saw her in was Monster-In-Law with Jennifer Lopez and Wanda Sykes. These days, she is planing on returning to acting with a role on Broadway.

Disconnecting

Just wanted to give you all fair warning that I'll be taking next week away from dropping and blogging. I guess you can say that it's a bit of a disconnect. I have many projects coming down the pipeline that will all but require me to sleep with the comp, so this time away is much needed if I'm to maintain what little sanity I have left.

Fret not, though, I shall return to normal internet activity the following Monday. Until then, enjoy yourselves out there in cyberspace!

Xmas in the summer and telemarketers

This afternoon I was playing a couple of games on the PS2, one of which I had gotten to the last level and then it locked up on me. Gamestop will be hearing from me tomorrow, that's for sure. The other was NCAA Football.

I know that the system has its own calendar and all, but it was kind of odd to hear them say "Happy Holidays" along with the usual welcome to the new season stuff.

Now, today is Xmas, right? 99% of places are closed so employees can be with their families. Someone forgot to tell the telemarketers that. Here it is 5 pm and I've gotten no less that 7 calls from the today asking to do this survey or that one.

I'm not sure which is the worse job, being a telemarketer or paparazzi!

It's officially Christmas

Yep, the title says it all. What makes me say that 2 days before the "big day"? Tradition, that's what.

Everybody has their own Xmas traditions stemming back to when they were kids. For me, its all about a series of Xmas specials/movies. It just just doesn't feel like Xmas unless I see all of these.

Mickey's Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol
Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
The Grinch
Bad(der) Santa
How the Grinch Stole Christmas

There's just something about those that make the holidays for me. What about your traditions or stuff you watch over the holidays?

Musical Monday

Let's slow it down a bit this week, shall we? Last week, I went to see The Princess & the Frog. If you haven't read my review, check it out here. I loved this song by Ne-Yo that played during the end credits and hope that you will also enjoy "Never Knew I Needed".

Eye Candy 12/20

Female Hottie: Sara Rue

Sara Rue may not be known to a lot of people, but this curvy cutie has been around for quite a while with guest starring roles on such huge shows as Roseanne, Will & Grace, recurring roles on Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, as well as starring in the recently canceled Eastwick, Popular, and her own show Less Than Perfect. At the start of the new year, she is said to be taking over Valerie Bertinelli as the face of Jenny Craig. She has been skinny before, but I think she looks better with a little meat on her bones, rather than another cookie cutter actress. As a matter of fact, her career kind of dried up during the time she was skinny...hmmm...Either way, she's still a hottie!

Male Hottie: Jamie Foxx

The way his movie career has gone, you'd never have thought this guy was a comedian, had his own show, or was on In Living Color. Back in those days, there were a few women who had a thing for him, but it wasn't until he broke out and proved he was a credible actor (not to mention flashed his 6 pack) in Any Given Sunday that the incessant drooling started. Since then Foxx has gone on to a number of movie roles, even winning the Academy Award for Ray. This year. he even branched out and started a fairly successful music career. Not to shabby for a guy from little ol' Terrel, Texas.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Noureen DeWulf

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard brings us our random hottie for this week. Noureen DeWulf's career is starting to take off. She has had guest spots on Chuck, CSI:NY, Numb3rs, 90210, and has starred in a Lifetime movie as well as began filming an upcoming film with Jennifer Lopez. Be on the lookout for this bonafide hottie. In case you're wondering, she's of Indian descent.

MILF: Kathryn Hahn

If Kathryn looks familiar, you may remember her from Crossing Jordan or her movie roles in Step Brothers, Anchorman, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Revolutionary Road, etc. She also was in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard with Noureen, though she had a much bigger role. She earns this spot because she has two children with actor hubby Ethan Sandler (not Adam).

Classic/Retro Hottie: Jane Seymour

I know Jane best for being Dr. Quinn medicine woman, but I was surprised to know that she had been around for quite awhile. during her career she has sailed the seas with Sinbad, been a bond girl, started in comedies, and even participated in the 5th season of Dancing With the Stars. Currently, she is working on a film to be released soon, and is living with her husband and twin boys.

There is justice

All football season I've been listening to New Orleans Saints this and Who DAt, and other sayings regarding the Saints. This would be fine and dandy except I'm a DALLAS COWBOYS fan.

Yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan living in Louisiana....south La. on top of that! Anyway, so tonight the two teams played.

All day long I was thinking what would I say if the 'Boys won and how many people are gonna plaster something if the 'Aints win.

Well, the Cowboys won, and guess what? Folks are already making excuses on facebook. The most common one is "...a regular season loss is nothing compared to a Super Bowl win."

The biggest surprise to me is how quiet they are when every other week they don't shut up about the Saints. I bet if they would've won, they'd have plastered it all over the site!

Oh well, at least for the week I can enjoy the Cowboys victory (and rub it in)!

Little Johnny's Xmas

I got this in my e-mail this morning and figured I'd share the humor.

A little Johnny Christmas

It is near the Christmas break of the school year. The students have turned in all their work and there is really nothing more to do.

All the children are restless and the teacher decides to have an early dismissal.

Teacher: "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today."

Little Johnny says to himself "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm smart and will answer the question."

Teacher: "Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln."

Teacher: "That's right Susie, you can go home."

Johnny is mad that Susie answered the question first.

Teacher: "Who said 'I Have a Dream'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Mary says, "Martin Luther King."

Teacher: "That's right Mary, you can go."

Johnny is even madder than before.

Teacher: "Who said 'Ask not, what your country can do for you'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Nancy says, "John F. Kennedy."

Teacher: "That's right Nancy, you may also leave."

Johnny is boiling mad that he has not been able to answer any of the questions.

When the teacher turns her back Johnny says, "I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut!"

The teacher turns around: "WHO SAID THAT?"

Johnny: "TIGER WOODS. See you next year!"

Orange?

Nat "King" Cole once sang about an orange colored sky. I've seen a few during my day, but usually they're in the daytime after a heavy rain or something, but here it is nearly midnight and when I just looked out the window the sky was orange. Weird, huh?

Just thought I'd share!

What a morbid week

Remember this summer when everyone was dropping like flies? Well, whatever it was that was going around then, seems to be back this week as it seems as though everyday there is a report of some one or other leaving this Earth.

Two deaths really hit me, though. First is Roy Disney, brother of Walt Disney. I commented on someone's blog earlier that his death seems to be akin to a great king dying and then the evil nephew or adviser or something takes over. I hope this won't happen to Disney. That place is already being run by the lunatics what with Miley Cyrus and Jonas Bros (both of which are Satan incarnate, if you ask me) apparently replacing Mickey Mouse as the symbols of the company.

The second death just happened this morning. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry die this morning after suffering sever injuries. This is really sad because he was having a comeback year this year, as he has had a troubled past...not to mention I added him to my Madden team and had him on my fantasy football team...lol

Seriously, though....isn't this just a downer of a week?

How can they be offended?

Poor Tiger. Seems like the guy can't get a break. He finally gets some good news today when he was named the AP golfer of the decade or something like that. I don't know the exact title.

Thing is, there is a group of people outraged by this, saying that he isn't deserving of it. First of all, the award is for what he did on the golf course for the past 10 years, and you can't deny that Woods has been anything but dominant out there on the green. As a matter of fact, if he wasn't, these media yahoos wouldn't have anything to talk about for the past couple of weeks. It's kinda like the O.J. situation, regardless of whether he did or didn't murder his wife, you can't deny what he did on the field. Same goes for Michael Vick before he went to prison, or anyone else that has had issues off the field.

Second, how can anyone be offended by this. Someone on the radio said it best, there must be this group of people that just sit around getting offended at things, like "Oooh! Obama has two daughters. I'm offended he doesn't have any sons" or "That Christmas tree doesn't have enough decorations on it". You know stupid stuff like that. This is what this seems like to me. More of that witch hunt mentality.

What are your thoughts?

ESPN idiots

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to watch ESPN. No, I'm not talking about their obsession with the NY Yankees, Boston Res Sox, New England Patriots, or Notre Dame, nor am I speaking of they're brainwashing the world against the Dallas Cowboys. Rather, I'm speaking of the way they berate guys for deciding to say in college.

Last year, they all but crucified all the underclassmen for deciding to stay in school another year, stating that they should go for the money. This year, University of Washington quarterback, Jake Locker, decided to return to school, a decision he just made yesterday.

Today, some guy said that you go to college to get ready for the NFL. I never played college athletics, but last I checked, I thought you went to college for an education...unless you play basketball where its just a stopping off spot for a lot of guys, but that's a whole different can of worms.

It's amazing how they make it sound like playing sports is the most important thing in the world. Of course, this is a sports network, so they get a little bit of a pass on that, but there is still no excuse for this. Just because you get drafted by a team doesn't mean you'll get to play, let alone become a superstar. Don't forget the injury factor. One freak play in a game or even in practice, and your career could be over.

I really wonder what goes through these guys' heads when they say things like this!

Eye Candy 12/13

Female Hottie: Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene is best known for her role as Alice Cullen in the Twilight franchise of movies. Aside from that she has done mostly second-rate, direct to DVD horror films. Bad career choices aside, she is a beautiful woman, and is more than worthy of this spot.

Male Hottie: Benjamin Bratt

Benjamin Bratt has been melting women's hearts for quite some time. Last I heard, he was starring in some show on A & E called The Cleaner, but his career has spanned numerous movies, including Miss Congeniality, Love in the Time of Cholera, and that abysmal insult, Catwoman. I believe he returns or returned to Law & Order this season, as well.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is riding high right now with what critics are calling the best performance of her career in The Blind Side. Aside from that drama, she has appeared in mostly romantic comedies throughout her career, most recently The Proposal (which earned her this spot). I've always been a fan of Sandra and look for more of her work in the future.

MILF: Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton is one of those actresses in Hollywood that you see, but never know her name. Did you even realize that she was in The Chronicles of Riddick, Mission Impossible II, 2012, or Crash? If you did, I bet you didn't know her name. I know I didn't. This waif thin British actress is the mother of two girls. Hard to believe looking at her, right?

Classic/Retro Hottie: The Andrews Sisters

During WWII, the Andrews Sisters' music kept both the country and soldiers abroad going. These 3 extremely talented singing sisters biggest hit was "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", a song still played to this day. This is proof that the sisters' legacy has been everlasting. Patty Andrews, the lead singer, is the only living member.

I have angered the technology gods!!!!

Ever have one of those days when it seems like everything you touch shuts down or blows up? Well, that was my day today. first of all, I wake up and get shocked by my alarm clock, the bathroom light bulb blows out, and when I turn the temp down on the heater, it started making funky noises. What an auspicious start to the day right? Well, it just got worse from there.

I get to the school, and clock in, and for some odd reason, it wouldn't read my card. I tell you, I did it quite a number of times in every direction. Strangely enough, the secretary does it first try. No problem whatsoever. WTF?!?

I teach my classes, then make it to my planning period so that I can turn in grades and attendance (oh the joys of being a teacher), and lo and behold, I get the blue screen of death. Finally get the comp to work, but its wiped! Went to another computer and the same thing happened. Rather than risk it happened to a third comp, I just turned in a handwritten copy.

Had the same problem clocking out that I did clocking in. Ugh! Finally get home and got to changing the light. Tried to turn the TV on...but that didn't happen.

Now, ever since last years week long blackout due to Gustav, the TV has been moody about responding to the remote, especially when its a bit on the chilly, side. So, my problems with electronics may or may not have been the cause for that.

Anyway, turned on the comp. This weird thin yellow line that has been on the screen all week is still there. Apparently, that has something to do with the screen. It's nothing more than an annoyance. good thing, too, because from my understanding it cost an arm and a leg and some headaches to fix it.

Continuing on, for some odd reason, the internet would not let me on. This happened in both Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. Now, at this point of the day, you can about imagine that I'm nearly ready to snap, but I step back, count to 10 and notice that the little internet light is yellow on the modem, so its a legit net problem.

Net stayed out most of the afternoon, and I'm just now getting back on. I apologize to those that I didn't get to drop on today.

Strangely enough, since the net has been back on, I haven't had any type of technology issues. Not sure what that means, but its just weird.

Guess the technology gods have decided not to smite me today, but rather warn me not to talk about their children...lol

I'm just glad the day is over and hope I never have another one like this ever again!!!

Relaxation

After a long week of dealing with middle schoolers, you can just about imagine that I'm more than ready to come home and relax. Today, it just so happens to be raining, so I decided to take a nap.

I'm weird in that for me to really sleep well, I need some sort of noise in the background, usually (preferably) music, but white noise such as the sound of a fish tank works, too. Today, I chose to turn on my jazz list and mellow out.

Since I wasn't tired, it's amazing that I went out as fast as I did, but I was out like a light. Listening to the smooth sounds of Diana Krall, Charles Mingus, Chet Baker, along with other jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, Glenn Miller, Charlie Parker, Tito Puente, and the list goes on.

Curiosity has the best of me, what relaxes you?

No moe Glee-fulness

This time of year, shows wrap up for the holidays and networks switch into holiday special mode, so many of our favorite shows go into a hiatus until after the holidays. That's just the way things go. However, Fox, in all of their infinite wisdom, has decided to hold off their hit show, and arguably the best show of the new season, Glee, until April.

What is the reasoning for this, you may ask? Well, part of it is to make room for American Idol. As an Idol fan, I understand this part of it, but at the same time, there is no need to wait until April to bring the show back.

That's not the only reason they're holding the show off the air. Apparently they have a new....wait for it...reality show (big surprise, right?) that they will be trotting out in its place. Something about little kids and their careers. I forgot what its about, but just like every other show its ilk, it is sure to be a waste of airtime that could go to the far superior Glee.

This layoff is going to either help or hurt the show. It may have helped it initially since the pilot aired last spring, but the show didn't start until late September. On the flipside, think back to last couple of years...how many shows were going full swing only to get yanked because of the Writer's Strike killing their momentum and network's not bringing them back. *COUGH* Pushing Daisies *COUGH*

Ho-hum...I guess I just have to wait 4 months for one of my favorite shows to return and find something else to watch in that spot. Wait! Modern Family comes on during that slot, so maybe I can see what all the hype is about.

Don't you just hate it when shows go on these obscenely long hiatuses?

Stay tuned for a full fall TV rundown post in the next week or two.

They keep piling it on

*SIGH* Another day, another Tiger Woods story. As bad as this sounds, his mother-in-law's medical problems this morning, may have been good news. What I mean by that is that at least she's not one of his mistresses...lol

Seriously, though, I'll be glad when this is all over and Tiger's life can go back to normal, and that he doesn't end up ostracized they way just about every other celeb/athlete that does looks at someone wrong is these days.

In the meantime, we're forced to oversaturation of this story. Hope you're all enjoying it.

Anyone remember that Michael Jackson died this year? lol

Monday, December 7, 2009

Give me some space...PLEASE!!!!

Raise your hand if you've ever been in a parking lot...usually at a grocery store or the mall, and someone drives down the aisle and sees you packing stuff in the car and decides to sit there and wait. In the process they hold up a good long line of cars behind them, frustrating them to no end. This gets worse the better the spot you have is.

I don't know about you, but I think that, just like thee are laws against tailgating (even though they're never enforced), there should be laws against just sitting there and waiting. Usually, if I see someone waiting there for me to move, I'll either slow down and take my time, or unpack my stuff and then go back in the store.

Sure, that may be a bit of a douchebag move, but so is waiting for someone to move. What kind of world do we live in that people are so impatient and inconsiderate that they feel they deserve to move into a person's spot after they leave.

Maybe I'm just fishing for something to complain about, but it just irks me when people do this. I guess you can call it one of my pet peeves.

Does this kind of thing happen to you guys in your respective parts of the country...or world, for that matter?

Eye Candy 12/6

Female Hottie: Olivia Wilde

Those of you that watch House probably are more than well acquainted with this weeks female hottie, Olivia Wilde. Earlier this year she was named hottest woman. I believe it was FHM that gave her that title, but I could be mistaken. Aside from her House duties, she has also appeared in a few movies such as Year One, The Girl Next Door and will be appearing in the upcoming Tron Legacy.

Male Hottie: Ryan Phillippe

Ryan Phillippe may best be known to most for his role as Sebastian in Cruel Intentions or for his marriage and subsequent divorce to Reese Witherspoon. Not exactly the conventional leading man by many standards, he still has quite the following, so I figured why not give him a spot on the list.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week:Jaime Ray Newman

It is such a shame that ABC has decided to cancel Eastwick, because we won't get to see any more of Jaime Ray Newman. I guess I'll ha veto check her out on Sci-Fi Channel...correction..SyFy Channel's Eureka. Either way, she is definitely not an eyesore.

MILF: Nicole Ari Parker

Our MILF for this week was last seen in Imagine That with Eddie Murphy, but is best known for her roles in the TV series and movie Soul Food. Nicole, as you can see is quite the piece of eye candy, and the mother of 2 children with her Soul Food co-star and husband Boris Kodjoe. Can we say MILF?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Vivien Leigh

Vivien Leigh was one of the most beautiful women of her time. She is best known for her being Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. A role which earned her an Oscar. Other critically acclaimed and honored films she starred in were A Streetcar Named Desire and Tovarich. Vivien worked pretty much until the day she died in 1967 and, despite her sickness, was the consummate professional. Some of today's actresses should take notes.

Babies and their powers

I was watching The Incredibles the others day (arguably the most entertaining, if not the best Pixar movie) and had a thought. How is it that a woman whose power is to stretch and man who has the super strength conceive a multi powered baby, another one that can turn invisible, and another that has super speed?

I could be wrong, but it just seems to me that super powers are like eye color and hair color. Of course, I do realize that this is all in good fun and you have to have suspension of disbelief when dealing with such things, but it is a wonder, y'know?

What do you think?

Channels

Apparently, my cable company is doing everything they can to get us to buy digital cable, either than or they just want to mess with their viewers.

The reason I say this it that for the past month they have been scrolling notices on the top of a handful of channels that they are going to move them effective December 12th.

What's the big deal, you may ask? Well, in all honesty, it isn't that big of a deal, except for the sudden decision to move them up into the 100s.

The channels in question are LPB2 (children's public television), some Catholic station, and TV Guide Network. There are a couple of others, but they're so insignificant, that I can't even remember what they are.

Now, I don't watch any of these channels, except for the occasional flip to TV Guide channel to see what's on. So, you can guess that I'm not a fan of them moving that one. As one of the few networks that actually serves a purpose, so it really makes no sense to movie.

This is Louisiana, so there are a ton of Catholics, so the Catholic station has its purpose, but I could care less about it.

LPB2 will be a loss for parents who sit their children down in front of it and use it as a babysitter. What will they do now? Maybe they'll actually have to watch their children?!? *GASP*

Seriously, this is a decision that isn't winning any brownie points with me, but I suppose it could be worse...oh wait, it just might do so.

I read this morning that the local channels haven't renewed their contracts yet. Now, they are working on a deal, but if they don't. Where am I supposed to get my local news and watch the "free" TV stations?

*SIGH* Is it just me, or do cable companies have way too much power?

A sad span of time in the sports world

Every now and then, there comes a span of time where everything seems to go wrong in the sports world in terms of bad publicity. We've had one of those spans.

First, there was legendary Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden retirement. Nothing wrong with that, except that it seems as if he was forced out. Yeah, I said it! The man was forced out because they school thinks they're entitled to win, rather than giving the man the respect he deserves and let him go out on his own terms, when he is truly ready. Yeah, sure he chose to retire, but this was after a meeting with the powers that be, where they told him that he could come back with less power.

Having said that, I should also mention that the coach in waiting, Jimbo Fisher, who is a good friend of Bowden and his wife, has to be put in a tough position with all this. They push Bowden out, and the pressure is on him. Yeah, he's supposed to be ready for this, and all, but I can't help but feel sorry for both men...Bowden for the way he was treated on his way out and Fisher for the ridiculous amount of pressure that will be on him.

The next thing, just broke this morning. Apparently, Tiger Woods did have a madam. He gave this big long spiel this morning saying how he was sorry for his transgression, a disappointment to his friends and fans...blah, blah, blah. The usual stuff we've heard from politicians and other sports stars in similar situations. The thing is that, and I hate to make this comparison, but like no one thought O. J. could have killed his wife (allegedly), it is inconceivable that an upstanding man such as Tiger would do such a thing, but I suppose each man has a weakness, and the women he was with aren't too shabby. Not condoning what he did, just saying.

One thing that Tiger said in his statement that needs to be said more often is that his private life should be his private life. As I said in a blog before, this story should not have been covered like 9/11 or if the man died. The amount of coverage it received has been ridiculous, especially since this happened on his own property. Personally, I could care less what he does in his personal life, and I'm sure there are more than a few people in the world that agree with me, but for some reason the media seems to think this was worthy of oversaturation. When will they learn to leave people alone? They've already killed Princess Di. Is it going to take another death to get them to back off?

*AHEM* sorry about that. Also in the sports world atrocity category, is the fact the the overrated New Orleans Saints are undefeated. I can't tell you how tired I am of hearing about these guys. As bad as you think you have it, unless you live in Louisiana, like I do, you don't have it as bad as I do.

What makes it worse is that since Katrina, people seem to think that the Saints and the city of New Orleans are entitled to a championship because the city was nearly destroyed. Look, I'm all for a fee good story and all, but these people need to get real. They need to earn it just like teams from Dallas, Miami, Denver, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, etc. That's just how I see it.

So, what do you guys think?

Yet another reason to end reality TV

I'm sure by now you've all heard of 3 stories in the past week. The whole Adam Lambert thing which was blown way out of proportion by people who can't handle someone different. Next would be this whole Tiger Woods thing, which is more of people wanting to know more information than they should know about a man's personal life.

Those two aside, I want to focus on the couple that crashed the White House dinner. First of all, someone dropped the ball and let them in. I heard this afternoon that the lady that normally lets people in or rejects them was let go by some lady in Obama's administration when he took over, stating that it wouldn't be worth keeping her because in these economic times there weren't going to be many big dinners. I paraphrased that whole thing, but you get the idea.

On top of this, there is the whole secret service/white house security issues. The fact that this couple slipped in is, quite honestly, disconcerting. I mean, sure they were harmless, but what if they had been some kind of terrorists or murderers or something. At this dinner were tons of dignitaries and other people of power. Had these two been the kind to cause some trouble, who knows what could have happened!

This brings me to my next point, why did they even bother crashing? The answer is that they wanted to get their own...wait for it...reality show. I think I read somewhere that they wanted to be on one of those real housewives show or something.

If you've read my blogs in the past, then you know that I am no fan of reality TV. As a matter of fact, I think it is the bane of our existence and embodies all that is wrong with our overinformed society.

If ever there was a reason to gather them all up and hit the cancel button, this was it. When folks are so delusional that they endanger National Security, even if they aren't a threat, it is a problem. The sad part about it is that these people just want some time in the spotlight, and they're getting it.

I don't want to say they should get away with this, but no matter what happens, they'll get some kind of publicity from this, which is quite ridiculous, if you ask me. Still, something needs to be done...I suggest tar and feathering, but considering how they want to be reality stars, that probably wouldn't work since they were ready to embarrass themselves on national TV.

What do you guys think?

Eye Candy 11/29

Female Hottie: Nikki Blonsky

Its been awhile since I've put a bigger girl on this list. Cutie Nikki Blonsky is no doubt best known as Tracy Turnblad from 2007's surprise hit, Hairspray. Unfortunately, she hasn't had much work since then, save for a Lifetime TV-move and a guest spot on Ugly Betty, but fear not, the totally unnecessary sequel to Hairspray will bring her back to the public eye.

Male Hottie: Jason Statham

Why does it seem that every guy I put in this spot comes from across the pond? Jason Statham has been described as this generation's Bruce Willis. Not exactly sure what that means, but whatever. I am becoming a bigger fan of this guy by the day, though, as long as he keeps making mindless action flicks that are just fun to watch like Crank, Death Race, Crank 2: High Voltage and "normal" movies like The Transporter trilogy, War, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This guy's career is on the upswing and showing no sings of slowing down.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Collette Wolfe

Observe and Report is responsible for introducing us to this week's random hottie. This blonde beauty has also appeared in Semi-Pro, 17 Again, Four Christmases, and the much missed CW show Reaper. From what I saw in Observe and Report, she has some talent, so hopefully she'll get some bigger roles in the future.

MILF: Paz Vega

Paz Vega bust onto the scene as the Mexican nanny in Spanglish. Since then, she has taken her place among the hottest Latina actresses such as Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz (whom she bears a slight resemblance to). She is the mother of two children. Can we say MILF?

Classic/Retro Hottie: Karyn Parsons

I remember watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air every week and being taken aback by Karyn Parsons' beauty. Sure Will Smith was the star, but I tuned in to see her. Since the show ended Karyn has starred in a few comedies, including Major Payne and The Ladies' Man. She also has been married twice and had a couple of children. She is retired from acting, but is currently producing an animated DVD film.

Quote of the Week

An optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day.

I survived

Yesterday was Black Friday. I was watching on the news how people were camped out in front of stores since they finished their turkeys and dressing on Thursday afternoon. I've always found this a bit extreme and to this day the only time I've camped out in front of any place of business was for the release of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

This got me to wondering, what would happen if I actually did make an attempt to brave the crowds and traffic and do some shopping. Being the daredevil that I am, I took the chance. I swear it was like walking down Bourbon St. during Mardi Gras out there!

People were shoving, pushing, grabbing, yanking, and I bet somewhere there was a fight or two. All the best human nature has to offer. It was then that I realized what a big mistake this was, especially since I had to be at the school for 4:30 in order to head to the game.

Having realized this, I purchased what I actually got out for and headed home. Was it worth it?

Well, I looked on-line and found a cheaper price for just about everything on my list (including shipping + handling) than the "deals" the stores had, so I'd have to say no. Will I be shopping exclusively on-line from now on? No, businesses need business, but cheap is cheap.

All in all, I happened tp survive yesterday, though. How did you guys out there fare?

...and its over

Back in August, I was thinking that the team would have a decent season. For goodness sakes, this school puts almost every dime they have into the team, so they better get something out of it, right? Of course, it'd be nice if some of that football money went to repair/upgrade the bleachers so the drummers don't have to fear for their lives every time they walk across them.

So, the 3rd round of the playoffs was held tonight. Aside from being cold, and everyone still a bit lethargic from all the turkey they had the day before (and leftovers they had today), it was an exciting game that literally came down to the last second.

As I've been complaining about the last couple of weeks, there was no support from our fans. This week, I was all set to let is slide because of th holiday and this being an away game, then I see their stadium is almost standing room only!

I won't go into all that, but I can say that with a last second touchdown by the other team, we were eliminated from the playoffs and football season is over for me.

I'm a little torn on this. I kinda wanted it to keep going, but at the same time I'm ready to be able to come home on Friday nights and not have to be out there in the elements. I swear it rained every week this season. What made it worse, its that it seemed to wait until time to head to the stadium before it started coming down.

So, anyway, the season is over, now its on to --shudders-- Xmas music. Especially since the concert is on the 3rd! Gotta love it when they move stuff up on you!

Stay tuned, I'm sure I'll be going more into detail about my frustrations with that next week.

Thanksgiving music...where is it?

A friend of mine on facebook updated her status saying that "you can't enjoy Thanksgiving for all the Christmas stuff". A truer statement has never been said..er..typed. As a matter of fact, in some places the Xmas stuff went up after the 4th of July decorations. I'm sure where you live this occurs, too.

What makes it worse is the music. Come November 1st, the radio station that I tend to listen to on my drive to and from work became all Xmas music, all the time. I am no fan of Christmas music. Part of it is because it all sounds the same to me. Not that they actually sound the same, but they sort of all meld together. I'm not sure if that makes any sense to anyone but me, but I hope you get the picture. I won't go into the torture I have to endure having to schedule and/or play Christmas music every year for concerts/parades, but that's a topic for another day.

Have you ever noticed that there are no Thanksgiving songs, though? Halloween doesn't have any "official" songs, but there are quite a few that fit the holiday spirit. Anything patriotic works for the 4th of July. Romantic stuff works for Valentines. I'm sure there are plenty of Irish stuff for St. Patrick's, and "Auld Lang Syne" in New Year's song du jour, but can you think of any song that is commonly associated with Thanksgiving?

Why is this holiday so shafted in the music department? Maybe I should sit down and write a Thanksgiving song. It's long overdue, that's for sure.

Let's have some fun this Musical Monday. Enjoy Pink's "Funhouse". It's a very catchy tune...just don't go singing it at the top of your lungs while the boss is coming down the hall...lol

Eye Candy 11/22

Female Hottie: Sienna Miller

Model/actress Sienna Miller has been seaming up runways and movie screens for a few years now, but she really broke out in this summer's hit G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as the Baroness. Personally, I think the dark hair suits her better. Someone please tell me what Jude Law was thinking when he cheated on this creature of perfection!

Male Hottie: Taylor Lautner

With the release of Twilight: New Moon this weekend (and the clamoring for some male skin in the spot), I figured who better to put here than the current top dog, if you will, than Taylor Lautner. He's come along way since his early roles in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (he was Sharkboy). He really buffed up for New Moon, though, something more than a few females have made it more than known that they like, even though they're not too crazy about the short hair.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: Susan Ward

The movie Who's Your Caddy? brings us our random hottie fr this week, Susan Ward. Susan isn't that well known in Hollywood, appearing mostly in small parts, but as you can see, when she does appear, it definitely worth a look. Hopefully, she can get bigger and better roles in the future.

MILF: Idina Menzel

Idina Menzel is a bonafide star of Broadway, earning rave reviews for her roles in Rent (which she reprised on the big screen), Wicked (she's rumored to reprise this role if it comes to the big screen soon), as well as everything else she appears in. She also appeared in a few movies, most recently Enchanted. In September, she gave birth to her first son with husband Taye Diggs.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Margot Kidder

Margot Kidder is best known as Lois Lane from the Superman movies. While those movies were the climax of her career, she has appeared in a few other things, such as The Amityville horror, Halloween II, voiced Gaia in Captain Planet and the Planeteers, and various bit parts. She returned to the Superman universe in a couple of Smallville episodes. In '75, she posed for Playboy. These days she is still acting in bit parts here and there and recently became a US citizen in 2005 (she's originally from Canada).

Green Robotics

Yeah, so, I haven't blogged much this week. Been a bit on the busy side with playoff activities, gearing up for Xmas concert, and just trying to make it through this week that seemed it would never end. gotta love the week before break, especially when a payday comes with it

first of all, I have to say that I want to blow up the middle school math department. Why, you may ask? Well, apparently, they got a grant of some sort and will start a robotics class. That's all fine and dandy, but they basically told the 7th grade director she was going to lose a few students, who coincidentally are her best and the ones that would likely stay in up through high school and beyond.

No, they didn't ask, she was told, and in a not so nice way. Not to mention, there was this whole thing about how they don't need to rehearse and can teach themselves, and that band directors don't do anything but collect a paycheck.

You can guess that myself and the orchestra director took offense to that statement. So, we're thinking of taking an instrument and the Xmas music to these people and tell them to teach themselves and to be ready for Xmas concert, and see if they can do what they're asking my associate to do.

On a lighter note, the high school had another game. Same as last week, they won, and there wasn't much fan support on the home side. At least this time, there was even less on the visitor side. I think the spirit squad and band may have made up most of their crowd.

Speaking of their band...they apparently can't have their own ideas for uniforms because they had an exact copy of the uniform I wore in college, except instead of purple they had green and instead of an N on the back, they had an E. I'm also sure they didn't have the 3 columns and NSU on the left chest, but something to do with EHS. They also had the shiny stuff underneath. WTF?!?

I guess I shouldn't complain, but rather it would be a compliment and honor. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I despise the color green, and both teams were green, so I was not happy. So, my break is cut short by a day because the team decides to win, on top of that, its an away game that's like out there in the boondocks of the bayous. Not going not be a fun trip on a crowded bus...but that opens up issues that can be saved for discussion at another time.

Too beautiful to not share

A friend sent me this video this morning, and I had to share the beauty. As a trumpetp layer, I'm a little jealous, though.

There's no half-singing in the shower, you're either a rock star or an opera diva. - Josh Groban

More down time

Last weekend, I took the weekend off from dropping and totally enjoyed it, so I'm going to do it again this weekend. At least for today, I may do some dropping tomorrow, though. Only time will tell.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

That was nice

So, I took a couple of days this weekend to totally break off from EC, and *GASP* it wasn't the end of the world!!!

Seriously, it was nice to actually have a break from dropping. I actually got to bed at a decent time and actually read blogs without feeling pressured to hurry up and move on to the next one. Of course, when I got back to dropping Sunday night, my price had dropped and there were a ton of new blogs in my inbox, but that's ok.

I may take more breaks in the future, especially with the holidays coming up, but I'll give you some warning before I leave.

Eye Candy 11/15

Female Hottie: Elisha Cuthbert

Sexy cutie Elisha Cuthbert may best be known as Keifer Sutherland's daughter on 24, but she has also done a few movies, including House of Wax, Old School, and her feature film Girl Next Door. With a face and body like that, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her in due time.

Male Hottie: Patrick Dempsey

Women call this guy "McDreamy", and I honestly have no idea why. Currently he stars on Grey's Anatomy and has appeared in a few movies over his career, most notably Can't Buy Me Love, Made of Honor and Enchanted. As long as Grey's is on, I'm sure this guy will still be a hot commodity.

Random Hottie from a movie or TV show seen this week: June Raphael

The movie Year One is responsible for bringing us this week's random hottie, June Raphael. Normally, June is behind the camera as a writer, but she has had bit roles in a few films. With a face like that, why is she depriving us of her hotness?

MILF: Alex Borstein

Alex Borstein is best known for her stint on MadTV, where she played a variety of characters, including Ms. Swan and a slew of celebrity impersonations, but she may best be known as the voice of Lois Griffin (and a few others) from Family Guy. She is the mother of one, who she joked about naming Stewie when she was pregnant.

Classic/Retro Hottie: Connie Stevens

Connie Stevens was the object of many male's dreams in her younger days. During her career she appeared in both television and film, including Grease 2, Hawaiian Eye, Maverick, and a few others. She also had a bit of success as a recording artist, with her biggest hit being "Sixteen Reasons" Today, at 71 years young, she is awaiting the release of a film she wrote and directed, Saving Grace, and watching the careers of her daughters Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher.
